    ABOUT THE MID-PRAIRIE SCHOOL DISTRICT:

    The Mid-Prairie Community School District is located 15 miles south of Iowa City, encompassing 217 square miles and serving around 1,500 students. The district's territory covers Washington, Johnson, Iowa, and Keokuk counties.     SUMMARY:

    The Special Education Consultant/504 Coordinator role provides leadership, supervision, coordination, and direction of all special education programs and services for students with disabilities aged 3 to 21. Responsibilities include strategic professional development, creating and managing budgets, monitoring compliance to meet state and federal mandates, and supporting equitable evidence-based practices and programming for academic growth and achievement, social-emotional learning, and behavior management within a multi-tiered system of support framework.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    ? Using a continuous improvement model, monitor the effectiveness of special education programming and provide guidance to the building administration, superintendent, and senior staff on necessary programmatic changes and expectations to ensure increased student achievement and social-emotional learning for students receiving special education.

    ? Communicate effectively with staff, principals, superintendent, parents, agencies, facilities, districts, and the Iowa Department of Education.

    ? Provide updates to the Board of Education as requested.

    ? Support and engage with the Grant Wood Area Education Agency.

    ? Supervise the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Extended School Year (ESY) each summer.

    ? Allocate and assign equitable FTE distribution for special education programs in all district schools.

    ? Train and lead a team of certified and classified staff to support effective implementation of special education programming.

    ? Oversee reporting and compliance, including preparation and submission of all reports and data for federal, state, and district monitoring of special education.

    ? Analyze budgets, revenue, expenditures, adjustments, and grants in collaboration with Business Services staff.

    ? Supervise out-of-district placements and approve contracts for both in-district and out-of-district placements.

    ? Manage conflict resolution, including consultation, facilitation, and mediation within the district.

    ? Coordinate relevant professional development for licensed and classified.

    ? Oversight of state and federal compliance related to IDEA.

    ? Supervise all activities related to Medicaid claiming and reimbursement, including annual training, budgeting, billing, and cost reconciliation.

    ? Perform other duties as assigned.

    SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY:

    ? This position carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. This position may be responsible for the hiring process.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    ?Masters Degree in education or special education

    ? Experience in the field of special education, with leadership experience in serving special education programming and students.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:

    ? An Iowa teaching license with a special education consultant endorsement is preferred.

    ? Criminal background check required for hire.

    ? Valid Iowa driver’s license.

    ? In order to safely perform this position, you must familiarize yourself with the safety rules of your job and participate in all safety training provided by your building. You must wear personal protective equipment whenever required, ask for assistance if the task requires more than one person and, if you’re unsure how to perform a task safely, stop and ask your supervisor for instruction before continuing.

    ? All employees of the district are responsible for maintaining a safe and healthy workplace and ensuring that safety precautions and practices are followed.

    ? We expect you to immediately report any unsafe working conditions or safety problems to your supervisor. Until corrective action is taken, be sure that the area or condition is restricted and that cautionary devices, i.e., cones, temporary fencing, floor signs, etc. are in place so that others are not affected or injured.
