Job Summary:
To provide comprehensive medical care for radiation oncology patients under the direct supervision of a board-certified/board-eligible radiation oncologist. The Physician Assistant (PA) position functions as an advanced practice practitioner in an outpatient setting, promoting the health of radiation oncology patients requiring care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other assignments, projects and duties may be required:
Provide effective patient care through sound judgement in assessing, planning, implementing, documenting, and evaluating care.
Duties performed:
+ Obtain thorough medical histories.
+ Perform initial evaluations and physical examinations on new and follow-up radiation oncology patients.
+ Order appropriate diagnostic studies
+ Review diagnostic test results and implement appropriate treatment.
+ Interpret and analyze medical data.
+ Establish diagnoses.
+ Formulate and implement treatment plans, as well as modify treatment plans when appropriate.
+ Assist with prescribing medications and treatment regimens within their scope of knowledge and as indicated for treatment.
+ Provide education to patients and caregivers about their diagnosis and treatments.
+ Assist the Supervising Physician in the evaluation and management of patients.
+ Limited at-home call.
Experience:
Preferred: A minimum of one year of clinical experience as an APP.
+ Degree requirements as defined by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), required for clinical certification for physician assistants.
+ Graduate of a Physician Education Assistant training program approved by the Council of Medical Education of the American Medical Association.
License and Certification:
+ Current certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
+ Current Physician Assistant license from the Texas Medical Board.
+ Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas.
