Responsibilities
This internship provides a supervised clinical experience for a student enrolled in an accredited Respiratory Therapy educational program. The Respiratory Care Intern will gain practical experience in various aspects of respiratory care, working under the direct supervision of licensed Respiratory Therapists. Successful candidates will demonstrate a professional demeanor, strong work ethic, and a commitment to patient care.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
Assists licensed Respiratory Therapists in providing respiratory care to patients across the age spectrum (pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric), under direct supervision. This includes observing and assisting with treatments and procedures as appropriate to the intern's level of training.
Cleans, disinfects, and reprocesses respiratory therapy equipment according to established protocols and infection control guidelines. Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment.
Stocks and maintains respiratory care supply rooms and areas, ensuring adequate supplies are available for patient care.
Assists with the distribution, collection, and conservation of oxygen cylinders, adhering to safety regulations.
Assists licensed Respiratory Therapists during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and other emergency situations, including rapid response calls, as appropriate to the intern's training and competency level.
Accurately documents patient care activities and observations under the supervision of a licensed Respiratory Therapist, following established departmental procedures.
Actively participates in departmental meetings, in-services, and continuing education opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills.
Works collaboratively with the respiratory care team, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide optimal patient care.
Complies with all hospital policies, procedures, and safety regulations.

Qualifications
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Must be a current student in an accredited Respiratory Care Educational Program. Must also retain at least a 2.0 GPA within that program.
AHA BLS
Skilled in interpersonal communication to the level that is required to effectively interact with patients, visitors and members of the healthcare team.
Possesses critical thinking skills adequate to evaluate patient conditions and recommend appropriate Intervention
Displays time management skills that are sufficient to organize scheduled tasks In a manner that ensures delivery of high quality respiratory care.
Understands and communicates in English at a minimum 12th grade level
Possess working knowledge of Google Workspace applications and has basic understanding of electronic health record systems.

Pay Range
$15.00 - $20.33 /hour
