Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Systems Administration, the Business Intelligence Specialist is responsible for leading the strategic design and maintenance of the University’s business intelligence applications. The Business Intelligence Specialist identifies University-wide decision-making and business intelligence needs and utilizes student, financial and other related data to meet these needs.
+ Inventory of current assets and resources for reporting and data analytics across the university
+ Determining if additional assets and/or resources are needed for successful and sufficient reporting and data analytics
+ Implementation and support of, and training in the use of, the tools used for institutional reporting and business intelligence applications
+ Develop and implement solutions for longitudinal analysis of financial and student data with the ability to address “what if” scenarios
+ Create custom reports addressing and dashboards specific information needs
+ Assist with business analysis, design, and implementation of the University’s data warehouse initiative. Analyze requirements and promote the correct interpretation and use of data warehouse information.
+ Analyze data to ensure the quality and integrity of institutional data. Researches and recommends software tools for data cleansing.
+ Provides additional support for performance measures, ongoing measurement, data collection, reporting, data visualizations, and information dissemination of business intelligence data operations.
+ Identifies, researches, and resolves technical problems.
+ Ensures that the use of business intelligence applications enhances business decision-making capabilities.
+ Engages in data exploration exercises with a variety of complex business intelligence tools, requiring knowledge of relational database structures.
+ Serve as a resource on complex technical and business matters.
+ Collaborates with other analytic teams and central Information Systems as directed.
+ Makes recommendations for changes in the current departmental systems and processes and contributes ideas and suggestions for solutions to the current system’s problem.
+ Completes mandatory ERP (Banner, etc.) and/or other software or analytic tool training as required.
+ Communicates revised estimates and target dates to stakeholders in a timely manner.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education Requirements:
+ Bachelor’s degree is required.
Minimum Experience and Skill Requirements:
+ Minimum one year of professional experience in a report writing and/or data analyst capacity.
+ Analytical ability required to gather data, perform transformation, perform complex analysis, and solve both business and technical problems.
+ Expert proficiency with business intelligence techniques and tools for the acquisition and transformation of raw data into meaningful and useful information for business and analysis purposes.
+ Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
+ Excellent organization, writing, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
