Job Summary:
For recent graduates of Drake University Law School or University of Iowa College of Law. Full-time (32+ hours/week). Position funded for one-year period (non-renewable term), to end no later than September 30, 2026.
Drake University Law School is now accepting applications from recent graduates of the University of Iowa College of Law and Drake University Law School who will be taking the bar exam in July for a one-year limited-term position of Staff Attorney/Legal Fellow to support efforts of ALL Iowa. ALL Iowa is a collaboration between the University of Iowa College of Law's Legal Clinic and Center for Human Rights, Drake Refugee Clinic, Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice, and Catholic Charities to provide and facilitate immigration legal services to Afghans and Ukrainians in Iowa.
The Staff Attorney Legal Fellow will be employed by Drake University but will split their time between Drake Refugee Clinic, Iowa MMJ, Catholic Charities, University of Iowa, and network providers as needed supporting efforts of ALL Iowa.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Juris Doctor from Drake University Law School or University of Iowa College of Law;
• Admitted to practice law in at least one state (not required at the time of application but required before end of September 2025);
• Driver’s license and reliable transportation;
• Background in immigration legal services.
Job Duties:
+ 50% - Direct legal services to eligible Afghan and Ukrainian populations
• On behalf of ALL Iowa collaborating organizations, provide direct legal services to grant-eligible populations
• On behalf of ALL Iowa collaborating organizations, attend interviews with clients at USCIS offices in Des Moines, Omaha
• On behalf of ALL Iowa collaborating organizations, counsel grant-eligible populations regarding available options for legal immigration status
+ 25% - Community education and outreach
• Perform community outreach to determine areas of unmet need
• Develop educational programs and programmatic responses to community needs
• If needed, organize legal clinics or workshops for grant-eligible populations
+ 15% - Development of legal resources
• Develop legal resources for providers and grant-eligible populations
+ 10% - Collaboration with grant partners and provider network
• Attend monthly meetings of Project Planning and Oversight Committee
• Attend monthly meetings of legal service provider network
• Coordinate among grant partners regarding efforts
