    Job Summary and Qualifications

     

    The Senior Manager has a key role in the planning, development, implementation, execution and maintenance of industry groundbreaking HIM and Coding operational strategies. The Senior Manager will demonstrate a strong commitment to customer relationships by working collaboratively with HSC representatives to facilitate effective outcomes in a timely manner. The Senior Manager will be responsible for initiating, executing, and managing projects associated with company-wide HIM operational and coding initiatives. In addition, on an as needed basis they will provide guidance and support to HSC leadership teams for any newly acquired acute care facilities. This position requires the ability to expertly manage multiple projects and be resilient to constantly shifting priorities.

     

    This position collaborates and works with regulatory, clinical and revenue cycle business owners and IT&S to identify, problem solve and support implementations and/or refine technologies, including, but not limited to NLP technologies including computer assisted coding, to further improve processes (quality and efficiency) leading to full automation **.** The Senior Manager provides HIM subject-matter expertise to the HIM and Revenue Cycle Shared Services, Corporate driven initiatives, and EHR enabling technologies.

     

    + Responsible for coordinating implementation, assessing and supporting technical functionality, troubleshooting, and training aspects for the HIM information systems and related software applications, predominantly Meditech Expanse.

    + Work closely with HIM leadership team to oversee and coordinate strategic planning for HIM systems initiatives. Keep abreast of emerging health information technologies as related to Meditech, Computer Assisted Coding software, Clinical Documentation Improvement software, transcription and other related systems.

    + Support the implementation of the HIM information systems upgrades and coordinate the testing procedures with other stakeholders as needed.

    + Implement, and maintain policies and procedures that facilitate the effective use of the HIM information systems

    + Employ monitoring techniques and downtime processes to keep the Health Information Systems in sync with other systems in the organization.

    + Monitor the HIM related system's interfaces and failure reports to ensure they are functioning at all times; troubleshoot and perform root cause and corrective action for system errors; escalate, when needed, and bring issues to resolution as quickly as possible.

    + Coordinate the quality assurance and process improvement information systems initiatives within HIM.

    + With direction, create reports and provide statistics and information as needed for HIM operations.

    + Partner with project management and HSC Leadership to implement project plans for facility acquisitions to an HSC.

    + Assist in developing contingency plans and operational workarounds for technology/process gaps, space contingency issues, personnel issues (retention, inability to recruit), etc.

    + Develop and maintain effective strategic relationships with support departments (e.g., CSG, Compliance, Information Protection, Internal Audit, Patient Access, HPG, IT&S, Education, Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI), Case Management, and Project Management).

    + Assist in the management of facility, SSC, Division, Group and Corporate customer relations for HIM initiatives.

    + Provide HIM operational support and guidance to the HSCs to create best practices and optimize performance.

    + Assist in development of health information management operational strategies for emerging technologies (e.g., EHR, EMPI, Analytics and Clinical Decision Support, 360 Encompass computer assisted coding, consumer patient portal, Health Information Exchange, Enterprise Information Management, Information Governance, HIM Coding Prebill Account Review Tool, etc.).

    + Assist in defining and requesting system enhancement needed to maximize health information management efficiency and effectiveness related to Parallon HIM and the EHR.

    + Manages system defect activities such as evaluating severity of defects, prioritizing work with IT counterparts, documenting system workarounds, communicating with HSC staff/IT/other team members to ensure awareness of the issues, track and trend defects by category/priority, etc.

    + Participate in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) activities and facilitate the sign off of application builds or system enhancements.

    + Assist in facilitating integration of health information management operational and compliance business objectives into IT&S product development.

    + Monitor HSC key performance indicators and independently initiate actions as necessary including creation of dashboards/reporting to track performance.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    + Conduct routine Leadership calls and meetings with key HSC personnel to provide subject matter expertise, share best practices, facilitate interactive dialog or task force actions to drive an initiative, solicit collective feedback for revised guidance (e.g., policies and procedures), conduct follow-up on action plan discussions and provide feedback on identified opportunities, etc.

    + Monitors compliance to policy and procedures such as EMR, ROI, Transcription, Analysis, education, abstraction, query compliance, etc.

    + Maintain compliance with external regulatory entities to include governmental agencies and payers.

    + Analyze, trend, and interpret complex HIM data to support HIM initiatives.

    What qualifications you will need:

    Education:

    + Undergraduate degree required

    + Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred, ideally in areas like HIM, Business Administration, IT, or Organizational/Change Management

    Experience:

    + Consulting or proven work experience in areas of process reengineering, revenue cycle shared services, and project management strongly preferred

    + Minimum 5 years HIM operations experience strongly preferred

    + Minimum 3 years management/leadership experience preferred

    + Minimum 3 years of applied data analytical skills preferred

    + Experience implementing a hospital EHR or similar enabling technology preferred

    + Minimum 3 years HIM operations or technology experience preferred

    + MEDITECH, HPF/MPF, and 3M 360 Encompass experience preferred

    Certificate/License:

    RHIA, RHIT and/or CCS strongly preferred
