    The Clinical Nurse Residency position on the Surgical Urology/Orthopedic unit at MD Anderson Cancer Center manages patient outcomes by providing, coordinating, and supporting clinical aspects of direct patient care across the continuum of care. They will impact quality of patient care, patient outcomes, and use of resources in a designated area in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

     

    Ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in nursing and less than twelve months of recent RN experience. Shift will be 7pm-7am, with rotating weekends and holidays required.

    Hourly breakdown of salary range:

    Minimum $32.69 - Midpoint $50.48 - Maximum $68.27

    PLUS - nurses will earn up to $8,320 in annual unit-based differentials for all inpatient units.

     

    The Surgical Urology/Orthopedic unit is a 32-bed unit for an adult patient population. This fast-paced environment has rapid turnover for surgical procedures which include postoperative prostatectomy, cystectomy, penectomy, nephrectomy, and orthopedic surgeries. Unique postoperative care of hemipelvectomy, flap monitoring, and testicular cancer surgeries are also managed on this unit. The team uses an interdisciplinary collaborative approach to patient care. Integrated in our nursing practice are tools used to maximize the skills of team members to achieve optimal outcome and improved healthcare quality.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    Accountable for the management and provision of patient care in assigned area. Assesses patient's needs for nursing care and multidisciplinary team. Collaborates with physicians, other services, patient, and patient's family to plan care and evaluate outcomes. Improves practice by integrating results and theories of research studies. Participates in data collection for current studies. Demonstrates clinical competency and compassion in providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures, and managing emergencies. Documents care according to established standards. Accesses, inputs, and retrieves information from computer systems. Assures continuity of care through appropriate discharge planning, patient education, and coordination of services. Acts as a patient and family advocate to uphold patient rights. Trains, coaches, and assists team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources.

    EDUCATION:

    Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.

     

    Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

    EXPERIENCE:

    Required: All clinical nurses with less than one year of registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program.

    LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

    Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN).

     

    Preferred: Certification in oncology or other nursing specialty. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.
