    Stony Brook University: Health Sciences: Renaissance School of Medicine: Emergency Medicine

    Description

    The Residency Program Director will lead the Stony Brook Emergency Medicine Residency Program, a three-year ACGME-accredited program that has trained top-tier emergency physicians since 1990. The incoming director will have the vision and leadership skills necessary to transition the program to a four-year curriculum, aligning with anticipated ACGME requirements.

     

    This role reports to the Vice Chair of Education, the Department Chair, and the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education/DIO and provides oversight to Associate Program Directors (APDs) and Program Coordinators.

    Key Responsibilities

    _Program Leadership & Compliance_

    + Ensure compliance with ACGME requirements for residency programs

    + Lead continuous program improvement and innovation

    + Foster a collaborative and supportive learning environment

    + Oversee and optimize the curriculum development for the transition to a four-year program

    + Lead the Program Evaluation Committee (PEC) and actively participate in the Clinical Competency Committee (CCC)

    + Oversee the resident evaluation process, including semi-annual reviews and remediation plans

    + Supervise resident career development and mentorship

    _Resident Recruitment & Selection_

    + Develop and implement a residency recruitment plan, including:

    + Residency fairs, social media outreach, and interview processes

    + Oversight of the application screening and ranking process

    _Administration & Operations_

    + Manage the residency program budget in collaboration with the Department Chair

    + Oversee resident experience on clinical rotations and ensure compliance with institutional policies

    + Address faculty and resident concerns in a timely and professional manner

    + Maintain accurate and complete program documentation in ACGME WebADS

    _Faculty Development & Education_

    + Participate as a core faculty member, engaging in:

    + Resident education, didactic teaching, and mentorship

    + Scholarly work, faculty meetings, and residency-related events

    + Encourage and support faculty involvement in teaching, mentoring, and research

    _Career Development & Professional Growth_

    + Participate in Stony Brook Medicine’s GME committees

    + Attend the Council of Residency Directors in Emergency Medicine (CORD) Conference

    + Engage in regional and national professional organizations (CORD, ACEP, SAEM)

    + Seek leadership roles in national committees related to Emergency Medicine education

    _Clinical Responsibilities_

    + Maintain active clinical practice in the Emergency Department

    + Supervise and educate residents and medical students

    + Role model excellence in patient care, professionalism, and teamwork

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    MD, DO, or MD/PhD (or foreign equivalent). Completion of an ACGME-accredited Emergency Medicine residency. Board certification in Emergency Medicine (ABEM or AOBEM). Minimum three years of documented educational and/or administrative experience. Minimum three years of experience as core faculty in an Emergency Medicine residency program. Demonstrated scholarly activity, including peer-reviewed publications. Ability to obtain and maintain a faculty appointment at Stony Brook University Hospital.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Completion of a Medical Education Fellowship. Experience in curriculum design and program development. Proven leadership experience in residency program administration.
