ABOUT THE TEAM
The Subscription Marketing team is responsible for growing revenue and subscriber volume across Dow Jones brands, including The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, MarketWatch and Investor’s Business Daily.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a strategic and analytical Senior Director of Subscriptions Strategy & Planning. Within the Marketing organization, this role reports to the SVP, Marketing and Subscriptions Strategy and will work across the Subscriptions teams to meet revenue and volume goals.
You will work in our midtown Manhattan office three days each week.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
+ **Planning & Forecasting** **:** With the subscription team functional partners, lead subscription forecasting, budget planning, and scenario modeling. Partner with Finance to set growth and retention targets and develop business cases for new initiatives.
+ **Data-Driven Decision Making:** Leverage audience behavior, churn drivers, and conversion data to guide strategic priorities. Partner with analytics, product, and newsroom stakeholders to interpret insights and take action.
+ **Lifecycle Optimization** **:** Provide holistic guidance for strategic initiatives across the entire subscriber lifecycle — from acquisition to onboarding, engagement, retention, and win-back. Collaborate with marketing performance and product teams to optimize user journeys.
+ **Performance Reporting** **:** Oversee dashboards and executive-level reporting on subscription performance. Distill complex metrics into clear narratives for senior leadership and board presentations.
+ **Industry & Market Intelligence** **:** Monitor competitive media trends, consumer behaviors, and monetization innovations. Bring external perspective to internal planning.
YOU HAVE
+ The willingness to work in our midtown Manhattan office 3 days each week
+ 15+ years of experience in strategy, business planning, or revenue operations, ideally within media, publishing, or a subscription-based business
+ Proven experience in developing and executing growth strategies for digital subscription products
+ Strong command of media metrics such as subscriber LTV, churn, paywall conversion, and engagement scoring
+ Financial modeling in Excel and/or within business intelligence tools experience
+ Exceptional strategic thinking, analytical modeling, and communication skills
+ Experience influencing senior executives and leading cross-functional initiatives
+ Familiarity with newsroom operations, journalism ethics, and the role of public service media is preferred
+ Working knowledge of subscription analytics platforms (e.g., Piano, BlueConic, Chartbeat, Google Analytics, Tableau, etc.) is preferred
+ Experience with CMS, paywall technologies, and/or customer data platforms is preferred

Pay Range: $185,000 - $230,000
