We are seeking an experienced, talented and highly motivated Performance Engineer to lead vehicle optimization across all Ford Performance Motorsports platforms within the Performance Engineering Group.
In this position…
You will lead a group of engineers, focused on optimizing vehicle performance, and be responsible for directing the team’s efforts to apply vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics and powertrain technical solutions to total vehicle performance through car build, integration, setup, simulation and race strategy. The successful candidate will ensure continuous improvement of performance and process to achieve industry leading performance across all Ford Performance Motorsports disciplines, including, but not limited to NASCAR, Sports Car, Demonstrators, NHRA and Off-Road.
This is a hybrid role and requires 3 days per week in the office in Concord, NC.
What you’ll do…
Team Leadership and Management
+ Build and lead a high-performing Performance Engineering team, promoting a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence across multiple disciplines.
+ Lead the development and implementation of methodologies, and processes to enhance performance.
+ Mentor and develop team members by providing regular feedback, fostering growth, and creating opportunities for learning and advancement.
+ Effectively delegate tasks while maintaining oversight to ensure project success and alignment with organizational goals.
+ Define, communicate and guide the team to meet objectives, aligning technical goals with the overall vision of the Performance Engineering Group.
+ Support design, testing, and optimization of vehicles on multiple concurrent programs, ensuring projects are delivered on time and exceed performance expectations.
Innovation & Technical Expertise
+ Plan and execute track and simulator testing.
+ Direct new vehicle architecture development using a fully integrated approach.
+ Support race performance optimization through setup changes and race strategy.
+ Analyze test and race data from all technical disciplines, (aero, vehdyn, powertrain), and provide recommendations to optimize performance.
+ Drive innovation and inspire team to solve problems with realistic, logical and implementable solutions.
+ Leverage expertise with data analysis to refine processes for maximum efficiency and performance.
+ Leverage new and emerging technologies to identify areas of focus for performance optimization.
Communication & Collaboration
+ Provide data backed recommendations using knowledge of racing performance to optimize systems and resolve issues.
+ Integrate with Aero, VehDyn and Powertrain groups to ensure concepts are integrated optimally to improve overall vehicle performance.
+ Foster strong relationships with the design studio, vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, powertrain and program teams to ensure seamless integration and total vehicle performance.
+ Collaborate with internal Ford technical teams to improve methodologies, processes and results across all tools.
+ Facilitate and support communication within the Performance Engineering Group, leveraging lessons learned to deliver solutions faster and with improved performance.
You’ll have…
+ 5+ years of related experience in the motorsports industry.
+ Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or related subject.
+ Willingness to travel internationally and domestically, including weekends.

+ Proven track record of successful project management, including experience managing complex projects with cross-functional teams.
+ Prior experience leading and working within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
+ Deep understanding of mechanical design, manufacturing processes, and data analysis techniques.
+ Strong knowledge of Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) principles and applications.
+ Extensive experience using data acquisition tools such as Bosch WinDarab, Motec i2, Atlas, Pi Cosworth, etc.
+ Significant experience using simulation software such as Dymola, VI Grade, CarSim, Canopy, etc.
+ Ability to lead and motivate a team of engineers.
+ Excellent communication and organization skills with ability to prioritize effectively.
+ Strong ability and desire to work collaboratively with multiple groups and personnel across numerous disciplines.
+ Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
+ Passion for motorsports and a commitment to excellence.
