SUMMARY
The Systems Engineer will be a key member of a team responsible for the design, implementation, management, and monitoring of existing and new systems within the National Military Command Center NMCC). This role requires a proactive individual with strong technical skills, project management capabilities, and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams. The Systems Engineer will contribute to the stability, security, and continuous improvement of critical IT infrastructure within a high-pressure, mission-critical environment.
CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
+ DoD 8570.01 IAT Level II Certification (at least one of the following): Security+ CE (Preferred), CCNA-Security, CySA+ **, GICSP, GSEC, CND, SSCP.
CLEARANCE REQUIRED
+ Active TS/SCI
WORK ENVIRONMENT
+ 100% Full time onsite, at the Pentagon, Monday-Friday with core hours between 6:00 AM - 4:00 PM
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Systems Engineer will:
+ Design, implement, manage, and monitor existing and new systems within the NMCC.
+ Collaborate with systems administrators, multimedia engineers, telecommunications engineers, and other teams to resolve issues, implement patches/updates, and design solutions.
+ Document work performed in the Remedy ticketing system.
+ Develop and maintain schedules/timelines for project tasks, for review by leadership.
+ Brief status updates and present technical solutions to government and Department of Defense (DoD) personnel, including explaining complex technical issues to non- technical audiences.
+ Work alongside system administrators responsible for the Information Systems (IS) within the NMCC.
+ Provide solutions based on system requirements and work with multiple teams to develop solutions to technical issues that arise.
+ Draft/review Engineering Installation Plans for IT requirements supporting the NMCC.
+ Work directly with third party vendors to discuss IT solutions/integration with mission critical systems within the NMCC.
+ Establish baseline hardware/software configuration for IT networks within the NMCC.
+ Assist with System Administrators implementation, security, privileges, and regular maintenance tasks.
+ Develop and produce documentation, SOPs, reports, and presentation slide decks.
+ Harden systems in accordance with DISA guidelines and best practices, working closely with cybersecurity teams.
+ Manage and minimize cybersecurity risk in the NMCC environment.
+ Focus heavily on project management and execution, adapting to changing priorities and plans.
+ Design complex solutions to address unique system design challenges.
+ Utilize extensive experience with VMware and Veeam Backup & Replication to manage systems architecture.
+ Manage systems at different stages of their life cycle, including tech refreshes and server/data migrations.
+ Integrate systems with flexibility and an agile mindset.
+ Develop, execute, and document test plans, test schedules, and scripted tasks to maintain system protection and availability, with a particular emphasis on servers hosted on the VMware platform and backed up by Veeam.
+ Take a systematic approach to identifying and resolving server and application issues, documenting solutions for recurring issues and developing an internal knowledge base.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
+ U.S. Citizenship
+ Active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) Security Clearance.
+ DoD 8570.01 IAT Level II Certification (at least one of the following): Security+ CE (Preferred), CCNA-Security, CySA+ **, GICSP, GSEC, CND, SSCP.
+ Bachelor's degree in Information Technology (or 8 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree).
+ Experience with Secure Technical Implementation Guidance (STIG) hardening practices.
+ Experience with Linux operating systems (Red Hat and CentOS).
+ Ability to work effectively in a team environment with other highly skilled and diverse individuals.
+ Extensive experience with VMware deployments, to include migration of VMs from Hyper-V to VMware, and building out a comprehensive VMware solution from start to finish (utilizing advanced features such as High Availability, Fault-Tolerance, etc.)
+ Extensive experience with managing Windows Server 2022 and 2019 domain environments, to include AD, Group Policy, etc.
+ Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and risk management.
+ Proven project management skills with the ability to manage priorities and adapt to change.
+ Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
+ Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ Extensive experience with building out and managing VMware environments.
+ Extensive experience with building/testing Group Policy.
