The Mechanical Engineer II will perform a variety of engineering research and product development tasks in the field of mechanical engineering. The role involves applying advanced theory, mathematical, scientific, and engineering principles to solve complex problems, conduct testing, and prepare documentation. The engineer will assist in designing and developing systems to test and validate solutions for repairable items.
Responsibilities
+ Design, modify, and implement test plans, specifications, and engineering changes based on system requirements.
+ Assist in the design, development, and modification of systems, end items, machines, and associated test plans.
+ Provide technical support to assess repairable item status based on system requirements.
+ Support the design and/or fabrication of electrical, mechanical, or electronic systems, assemblies, and subassemblies.
+ Contribute to design modifications using CAD and schematic software.
+ Complete assigned technical tasks and provide customer support in the engineering discipline.
+ Represent the organization and provide customer support.
+ Work effectively in a team environment.
+ Review procedures to ensure the adequacy of test and repair processes.
+ Evaluate failure data from field locations and recommend resolutions.
+ Offer technical solutions to a wide range of complex problems.
+ Participate in the completion of project milestones.
+ Conduct briefings and participate in technical meetings with internal or external representatives.
+ Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor's degree with 2 years of experience or Master's degree with no experience required.
+ U.S. Citizenship.
+ Public Trust security clearance required to start.
+ Complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the engineering field.
+ General knowledge of other related disciplines.
+ Experience with AutoCAD and CAD-type software.
+ Experience in design, development, research, and new product introduction (NPI).
+ Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
+ Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
+ Experience with schematic capture software and printed circuit board analysis.
+ Understanding of Analog/Digital Design, microelectronics, electrical systems, and software development.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with 3D printing and dimensioning.
+ Experience with motor design.
+ Experience with electromechanical control theory and systems.
+ Familiarity with 3D modeling software (Catia, ProE, Inventor, Mentor Graphics, or similar).
+ Familiarity with system and test engineering methodology.
+ Knowledge of fabrication, material composition, and machining.
+ Basic understanding of electrical AC/DC theory.
+ Green Belt, LEAN, or Agile certification.
+ Completion of EIT.
+ PE license.
Work Environment
The Mechanical Engineer II works at the United States Postal Service (USPS) Central Repair Facility (CRF) in Topeka, KS. The CRF is a depot repair facility for USPS mail processing, delivery, and bulk mail systems repairable parts. This includes repairing printed circuit boards, electrical, electronic, mechanical, and electro-mechanical assemblies to component level. The CRF provides depot-level maintenance for essential automation, mechanization, retail, and bulk mail processing systems used in all mail processing and retail installations. The position offers the possibility of transitioning to remote work one day per week.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $33.50 - $37.50/hr.
