    Job Description

    The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is the nation’s largest public housing authority, with over 12,000 employees, and provides affordable housing to 528,105 authorized residents through public housing and Permanent Affordability Commitment Together (PACT) programs as well as Section 8 housing. NYCHA has 177,569 apartments in 2,411 buildings across 335 conventional public housing and PACT developments.

     

    Under the general direction of the Deputy Director of the Employee Safety Oversight Unit within the Environmental Health & Safety Department, the Employee Safety Administrator performs very responsible work monitoring NYCHA’s compliance with regulations and standards governing employee safety.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

    - Work closely with the Deputy Director of Employee Safety to support department and NYCHA-wide initiatives and priorities.

     

    - Provide day to day oversight and supervision of a team of Employee Safety Oversight Unit Specialists (ESOUs).

    - Provide guidance and instruction to ESOUs who perform the following:

    o Assessments of NYCHA’s workplaces for hazards such as airborne contaminants, ergonomic challenges, or dangerous sound levels through environmental monitoring, field visits, data

     

    collection, and observations of personnel and their respective work processes.

     

    o Audits and evaluations NYCHA’s workplaces, standard procedures, and work practices for compliance with applicable regulations.

    o Investigations of workplace injuries to identify the “root cause” of the injury and develop recommendations to address the identified deficiencies.

     

    - Review and finalize all reports or analysis produced by ESOUs prior to submission to department leadership.

     

    - Manage and oversee projects and initiatives to improve or establish new or existing health and safety programs and procedures.

     

    - Provide technical guidance and assist other business units in managing various safety-related programs, initiatives, and requirements.

     

    - Participate in external safety teams, committees, events and task forces, as directed.

     

    - Interact with internal customers of all levels within NYCHA on a proactive basis and conduct presentations on various safety topics.

     

    - Review and prepare reports and supporting materials to communicate incident analyses, compliance trends, performance information, regulatory issues, and other subject matter area-specific

     

    discussion documents.

     

    - Coordinate closing with the Safety Training and Communications Administrator to ensure information and priorities are aligned.

     

    - Perform other related duties as assigned.

    ADMINISTRATIVE PUBLIC HEALTH S - 8298D

    Qualifications

    1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by 30 credits in the eh biological and/or physical sciences, and four years of satisfactory full-time experience performing inspections to assure compliance with pertinent laws, rules and regulations governing the areas of food, drugs, and general environmental sanitation, eighteen months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity, or in supervising staff performing food, drug and general environmental sanitation inspectors or related work; or

    2. An associate degree from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by 12 credits in the biological and/or physical sciences, and six years of satisfactory full-time experience as described in question "1" above; or

    3. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However all candidates must have at least 60 credits from an accredited college or university, including 12 credits in the biological and/or physical sciences, and at least two years of experience as a public health sanitarian, including or supplemented by eighteen months of experience in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity as described in "1" or "2" above.
