Job Title: EHR Trainer – Altera TouchWorks
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and engaging EHR Trainer with in-depth experience in Altera TouchWorks (formerly Allscripts TouchWorks) to lead and support EHR training initiatives, with a special emphasis on resident onboarding. This role is critical in ensuring new residents are quickly and effectively trained to use the EHR system within clinical workflows, promoting a seamless transition into patient care.
Key Responsibilities
+ Deliver focused, role-based training for incoming residents, tailored to their specialty and clinical responsibilities within Altera TouchWorks.
+ Develop and maintain training materials—including quick-start guides, job aids, and e-learning modules—specifically designed for but not limited to resident workflows.
+ Coordinate closely with GME (Graduate Medical Education) and residency program coordinators to align training schedules with orientation timelines.
+ Provide at-the-elbow support for residents during go-lives, rotations, and critical periods of system use.
+ Conduct regular refresher sessions and provide updates on EHR changes, enhancements, and best practices.
+ Train additional clinical and administrative staff on Altera TouchWorks as needed, including new hires and super users.
+ Customize training content for different roles (e.g., nurses, providers, front office) while ensuring alignment with organizational standards.
+ Gather feedback from residents and clinical staff to continuously refine and improve the onboarding experience.
+ Participate in system testing, upgrade validation, and support initiatives related to EHR optimization and workflow improvement.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Qualification
+ Required:
+ 2+ years of experience training or supporting Altera TouchWorks EHR
+ Proven experience onboarding medical residents or new clinical staff
+ Strong understanding of ambulatory and academic clinical workflows
+ Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills
+ Proficiency in instructional design and adult learning principles
+ Preferred:
+ Experience working in an academic medical center or teaching hospital
+ Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare, Education, IT, or related field
+ Experience with LMS systems and e-learning tools
+ Clinical background or familiarity with GME program structures
Working Condition
+ On-site presence required during resident onboarding and go-live periods
+ Occasional travel to satellite clinics or training locations.
