Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

Unit Position Summary

The Professional Aide will be responsible for providing coverage for regional mentors and be responsible for providing daily guidance, and direction to identified at-risk adolescents to enhance their personal, vocational, and educational growth; setting educational, and vocational goals with mentee and monitors and documents progress toward goals; collaborating with law enforcement liaison and regional case worker on daily basis regarding services needed, obtained, and utilized; collaborating with stakeholders to ensure individualized systems of care are utilized; collaborating with parents, teachers, special education directors, probation officers, therapists, community mental health associates, and physicians to ensure designated services are being utilized; assisting the educational provider in the delivery of appropriate school accommodation and engagement in school related activities as needed; assisting the regional case manager and clinical provider(s)in providing appropriate emotional supports to youth; participating in staffing and team meetings as requested to discuss observations of youth behavior; serving as an empathetic listener to school officials, at-risk adolescents, and their families on topics such as family, problems, court hearings, and/or homework; preparing and reports and documents, summarizes youth progress, incidents, behavior, and other required information for use by Program leadership.

This position works with adolescents throughout the state of Michigan and requires travel to the region requiring coverage which may involve travel to Calhoun, Oceana, Lake, Mason, Wayne, and Ingham counties among others.

Task breakdown

+ 20% Provides daily guidance, and direction to identified at-risk adolescents to enhance their personal, vocational, and educational growth

+ 20% Ensures progress toward educational, and vocational goals are being met with the mentee; monitors and documents progress toward goals

+ 15% Collaborates with parents, teachers, special education directors, probation officers, therapists, community mental health associates, and physicians to ensure designated services are being utilized

+ 10% Collaborates with regional case worker on daily basis regarding services needed, obtained, and utilized

+ 10% Collaborates with stakeholders to ensure individualized systems of care are utilized

+ 5% Assists the educational provider in the delivery of appropriate school accommodation and engagement in school related activities as needed

+ 5% Assists the regional case manager and clinical provider(s)in providing appropriate emotional supports to youth

+ 5% Participates in staffing and team meetings as requested to discuss observations of youth behavior

+ 5% Serves as an empathetic listener to school officials, at-risk adolescents, and their families on topics such as family, problems, court hearings, and/or homework, and general interpersonal relationships

+ 5% Prepares reports and documents, summarizes youth progress, incidents, behavior, and other required information for use by Program leadership

+ Intervenes as necessary in crisis situations, arranging for the necessary assessment and care of the at-risk youth

+ Immediately report any suspected high-risk behavior, abuse or neglect of youth

Desired Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

+ Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social work, education, or related field, with demonstrated experience working with adolescents

+ Two to five years of progressively more responsible work experience with adolescents

+ Demonstrated ability to develop, maintain, and enhance strong relationships with parents, teachers, guidance counselors, mental health providers and/or other community resource providers, adolescents, and their families

+ Demonstrated problem solving skills and attention to detail

+ Valid Michigan Drivers license and reliable transportation

Desired Qualifications:

+ Demonstrated experience working with adolescents or with K-12 schools

+ Training in crisis intervention, risk assessment, threat assessment and/or working within a behavioral assessment teams

+ Demonstrated experience working within a behavioral assessment team

+ Superior interpersonal, coaching and communication skills to effectively work within a multi-disciplinary team setting

Special Instructions

Although this position is remote, this is a community-based position which will require you to travel throughout the community daily to meet with school officials, community resource agencies, and clients/families during regular business hours.
