    Job Description

    Join our team as a Field Inspector in Farmer City Production, where you'll play a crucial role in assisting seed production fields by gathering quality data from fields and crops. You will be responsible for monitoring fields daily to assess physical attributes of the crop and identify any undesired plants and pests. Additionally, you'll ensure timely data entry of your quality observations into the designated field software.

    Responsibilities

    + Inspect the accuracy of field maps at the start of the growing season.

    + Conduct counts of plant silks and tassels, including those emerged and those throwing pollen, as well as counts of undesired or 'off-type' plants.

    + Accurately rate field status and immediately disclose to supervisors when a field is outside of quality standards.

    + Record additional observations such as large pest presence, water or ponding in the field, and any hazards not already noted for that particular production field.

    + Document glume, anther, silk, and brace root colors to ensure consistency in physical characteristics of the crop.

    + Record the number of leaves above the earshot.

    + Utilize assigned devices daily for inspection data entry.

    + Maintain excellent communication with area leads and field inspector leads.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Ability to work independently and travel daily to assigned production fields.

    + Basic understanding of general labor, harvest, farm work, and agriculture.

    + Knowledge of scouting, inspection, farming, landscaping, and use of hand tools.

    + Previous crop or agricultural knowledge is desired but not required.

    Work Environment

     

    Work will primarily be conducted outdoors during the months of June, July, and August. Expect to work in hot, humid, dusty, wet, and muddy environments within corn fields. Exposure to corn dust, pollen, and insects is a part of the work environment.

     

    Pay and Benefits

     

    The pay range for this position is $18.50 - $20.00/hr.
