    A Patient Services Representative welcomes patients, promotes new technologies, educates on financial obligations, collects payments, schedules appointments, connects patients to financial resources, updates demographics and insurance info, and fosters a culture of service excellence. They ensure a positive UPMC Experience with strong customer service skills at UPMC facilities. This position will support behavioral health treatment services of multiple Child departments utilizing various service delivery models.

     

    This is a part-time position located in Wexford PA.

    Responsibilities:

    + Educate patients on financial responsibility and connect them to advocacy resources.

    + Verify insurance benefits via online systems or phone.

    + Obtain patient or family consent for treatment and financial responsibility per HIPAA rules.

    + Triage phone calls to appropriate areas or providers.

    + Perform administrative duties like scanning medical records and faxing.

    + Greet patients warmly.

    + Guide patients through self-arrival technology or check-in at the desk.

    + Collect copayments and other patient payments.

    + Update patient registration information at checkout.

    + Schedule follow-up appointments and ancillary services.

    + Help patients navigate the healthcare system and provide follow-up for unresolved issues.

    + Understand and apply service recovery principles.

    + Register patients in the Biometrics program and explain benefits.

    + Promote and assist with MyUPMC patient portal registration.

     

    Completion of high school graduate or equivalent is required.

     

    Experience with personal computer-based applications, other various office equipment and proficient typing skills are preferred.

     

    Two years of experience in a medical / billing / fiscal or customer service function is preferred.

     

    Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.

     

    Prior experience with Medipac, Epic, or other health records systems is preferred.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

    • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)

    • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

    • Act 33 with renewal

    • Act 34 with renewal

    • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
