Reporting directly to the Safety Manager, the Safety Coordinator plays a crucial role in assisting with the safety and well-being of all employees in the plant. This position involves reviewing, updating, and enforcing safety policies, conducting comprehensive safety training, and monitoring compliance with both internal and external safety regulations.
The Safety Coordinator will assist the Safety Manager in incident management, environmental compliance, equipment and tool safety, and ensuring the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Additionally, this role requires excellent communication and training skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with various teams and departments.
Key responsibilities include monitoring safety performance, understanding of OSHA regulations, conducting safety audits, assisting with incident investigations, and participating in pre-shift safety meetings. The Safety Coordinator must be willing to work nights and weekends as necessary to foster a strong safety culture throughout the facility. Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities:
• Safety Training and Orientation:
o Assist with the review, updating, and providing safety orientation training for all employees.
o Monitor initial and annual safety training and testing; maintain records and conduct training as needed.
o Daily, positive interaction with plant staff.
• Policy Enforcement:
o Assist with the review, updating, and enforcing the site safety policies (LOTO, PPE, Hot Work, etc.).
o Audits live critical work permits according to established policies.
• Safety Monitoring:
o Monitor safety performance of all workers to ensure they meet safety expectations.
o Conduct safety audits at the facility level and review findings.
• Incident Management:
o Report all incidents and injuries to Facility Management and Corporate Management immediately.
o Enter documentation/reporting for near hits/misses, first aid cases, recordable injuries, etc.
o Assist with incident investigations and support Facility Management with follow-up and case management.
• Environmental Compliance:
o Assisting management in ensuring facility environmental policies are followed (storm water, paint handling, SDS availability, chemical spills and clean-up, etc.).
• Equipment and Tool Safety:
o Checks that all equipment have up-to-date inspections.
o Checks that all tools on the job site meet facility inspection requirements.
• Regulatory Compliance:
o Assists with compliance of all OSHA and facility safety/environmental requirements.
• Project Safety:
o Work with Facility Maintenance, Project Leaders, and Contractors to ensure safely executed projects.
o Ensure accurate headcount of contractors for emergency response reasons.
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
o Ensure everyone has access to and wears appropriate PPE.
• Safety Meetings and Hazard Analysis:
o Participate in pre-shift safety meetings.
o Perform hazard analysis for regular tasks and upset conditions.
Education and/or Experience and Other Requirements
• Associate degree or higher is required for this position
• 3+years of demonstrated Health, Safety & Environmental (EHS) experience is required.
• Previous, demonstrated success in a safety leader role is required. Safety leadership experience in manufacturing, refinery, construction or industrial facility is preferred.
• Adherence to and role modeling of all company safety policies, procedures and PPE requirements.
• Microsoft office product experience required
• Ability to speak and translate Spanish is preferred.
• Must have availability to work nights, weekends, holidays and rotations as needed.

Environmental Conditions
• Work is performed in an industrial mill environment. This includes working at heights requiring the use of ladders, platform and lifting machinery. Work is often performed in tight, dirty, oily areas including confined spaces. Overall, the mill is exposed to outdoor temperatures where extreme heat and cold will be a condition of work.

This is a salary non-exempt position, eligible for overtime pay when business needs require.
