Description
Our client in the entertainment industry is looking for an experienced interim Payroll Manager to join their team on a contract basis. This role involves overseeing payroll operations, improving processes, and ensuring compliance with financial reporting standards. They are located in Nashville but are open to remote candidates who are able to work Central time zone hours. The Payroll Manager will supervise a team of 3 payroll processors.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee payroll operations, ensuring accurate and timely processing for multiple entities across dozens of states.
• Develop and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs) and checklists to enhance payroll workflows.
• Conduct process assessments to identify gaps and recommend improvements for greater efficiency.
• Collaborate with financial reporting teams to ensure seamless integration between payroll and general ledger systems.
• Analyze workers' compensation costs and variances, providing actionable insights.
• Support equity and bonus payout processes, ensuring compliance with company policies.
• Provide hands-on backup payroll processing during staff shortages or high-demand periods.
• Evaluate team capabilities and identify skill gaps to optimize payroll department performance.
• Document and transfer payroll knowledge to support long-term operational success.
• Utilize Workday systems to streamline payroll and HRIS processes.
Requirements
• Extensive experience in payroll management, including hands-on processing and team leadership.
• Mandatory experience with processing payroll for NY and CA.
• Strong knowledge of payroll accounting and its integration with financial reporting systems.
• Proficiency in developing and maintaining SOPs and process documentation.
• Expertise in conducting gap analyses and recommending process improvements.
• Familiarity with workers' compensation and bonus payout processes.
• Advanced skills with Workday Payroll and HRIS systems.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
