Job Title: Detective – Intelligence Division
Department/Division: MTAPD – Intelligence Division
Supervisor: Commanding Officer, Intelligence Division
Work Location: Various
Hours of Work: Four (4) tours of ten hours with three (3) consecutive rest days
SUMMARY :
The MTA Police Department is seeking qualified members from the rank of Police Officer or Detective who are interested in assignment to the Intelligence Division. Applicants should note that the selected applicant may be offered assignment to any unit within the Intelligence Division .
RESPONSIBILITIES :
+ Investigate various Intelligence, C riminal , Cyber and Counter Terrorism investigations .
+ Perform operational activities related to the Intelligence Division within the MTA or in collaboration with external law enforcement agencies/emergency response agencies.
+ Execute human/electronic surveillance and implement/install systems associated with (CCTV, cameras, low voltage electronic devices, etc.).
+ P repare detailed administrative , investigative and intelligence reports free of grammatical errors .
+ Represent the department as a liaison at Intelligence briefings and other Law Enforcement meetings.
+ Potential a ssignment to regional law enforcement fusion/intelligence centers.
+ Potential a ssignment to Federal Task Forces to include FBI, DEA, HSI and similar.
+ Liaison with other Law Enforcement Agencies to ensure the safety of the MTA , employees and its customers .
+ Be on call and travel to I ntelligence Division related events /incidents .
+ Work any day of the week, hours of the day and on rest days as needed.
+ Work outdoors during inclement /hot weather.
+ Travel within the Tri-State region and p rovide protection to the MTA Chairman , Agency presidents and civilian executives .
+ Conduct risk assessments, develop protection plans, manage travel logistics, conduct event advances, and provide updates on security risk and/or incidents.
+ Executive Protection - the nature of protection work is dangerous and requires the ability to make quick and accurate judgments in emergency situations. Detectives must be able to deal with emergency situations and hostile individuals that may require immediate police intervention .
+ Detectives are required to follow procedures and policy that are set out in the collective bargaining agreements and by MTA Police Management.
+ Attend training related to Dignitary Protection and Intelligence .
+ B ackfill units not assigned to, within the Intelligence Division as needed.
Requirements - Interested members must, at a minimum, possess the following qualifications to be considered for this position:
+ Five ( 5 ) years of police experience (as defined in section 1.20 of the NYS criminal procedure code) with at least three (3) years of service with the MTA Police Department at time of application.
+ Your abstract must clearly and thoroughly reflect any Intelligence related qualifications you possess and how these skills will benefit the Intelligence Division.
+ Your abstract must highlight your report writing and grammar skills.
+ Possess strong communication and multi-tasking skills.
+ Possess excellent administrative skills.
+ Must be a motivated self-starter.
+ Flexibility to work various tours, various work locations based on the needs of the D ivision .
+ The ability to travel from residence to incidents within the MTA service area in a reasonable time.
+ Must have extensive knowledge of the New York State and Connecticut law s and statutes.
+ Candidates who have recent substantiated discipline/suspension , negative supervisor reviews and/ or who have a documented history of lateness or absenteeism related to non-justifiable excessive sick records may be removed from interview consideration.
+ Omission of documented disciplinary records will result in your disqualification.
+ Successful completion of the panel interview.
In addition to above requirements, the ideal candidates would possess the following:
+ Members who currently hold an active security clearance sponsored by DOD, FBI or DHS.
+ Members who h a ve successfully completed a Criminal Investigation Course.
+ Members with prior extensive experience in the fields of criminal/terror related Intelligence Investigations within the military or other law enforcement or Intelligence agency.
+ Members with prior extensive experience in the field of Intelligence Analysis (Intel Analyst) within the military or other law enforcement or Intelligence agency.
+ Prior investigative experience within the MTA Police Department ’s Detective Division , Special Investigations or Applicants Investigations .
+ E xperience in cyber security, digital forensic investigations, computer crimes, digital surveillance , drone operations .
+ E xperience in dignitary protection.
+ E xperience in Intelligence report writing and/or previous Counterterrorism related assignments.
+ Detailed recommendation letters from two (2) different supervisors.
OTHER INFORMATION
Interested employees who meet the above listed qualifications will be invited to participate in a panel interview. Candidate should understand that they are not guaranteed an appointment to the rank of Detective, even if they meet the above qualifications. Members with incomplete abstracts will not be considered for interview.
