    The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, along with a minimum of 5 years of progressive HR experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership or management role. A strong understanding of employment law, talent acquisition, employee relations, and HR best practices is essential. PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification is strongly preferred.

    Position Summary

    The Human Resources Manager supports and advances the human resources function by focusing on recruitment and talent acquisition, while assisting in the execution of broader general human resource responsibilities and contributing to strategic initiatives under the direction of the VP of HR / Admin. This position ensures that HR practices are compliant, consistent, and aligned with the goals of the Credit Union. The HR Manager acts as a resource to employees and management, ensuring a positive employee experience while helping to build a strong, mission-driven workforce.

    Requirements

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    Stay current on federal and state employment laws to ensure compliance and provide guidance to management on matters such as recruitment, compensation, employee relations, leaves of absence, and performance issues.

     

    Lead full-cycle recruitment for all levels of the organization, including sourcing, screening, interviewing, and partnering with managers on selection. Develop recruitment strategies and maintain the applicant tracking system and related metrics.

     

    Assist with onboarding and orientation of new employees to ensure a smooth and consistent experience aligned with Valley's values and policies.

     

    Serve as a backup to the HR Generalist, assisting with benefits administration, policy updates, file and records management, HRIS updates, payroll preparation, and other daily HR operations as needed.

     

    Support the VP of HR / Admin in strategic HR initiatives, including compensation planning, salary structure, performance management, training development, compliance reporting, succession planning, and organizational culture enhancement.

     

    Help manage the employee handbook and related policy documents, ensuring they are kept up to date and compliant with applicable laws and regulations. Support the implementation of new policies and procedures.

     

    Participate in the analysis of turnover trends and exit interviews. Recommend retention strategies and assist in employee engagement efforts.

     

    Provide coaching and guidance to managers and employees on HR topics such as performance improvement, workplace concerns, and policy interpretation. Assist in employee relations investigations and recommend resolution strategies.

     

    Support benefit programs, including open enrollment, claims issues, and vendor coordination. Serve as a secondary contact for benefits questions and education.

     

    Assist with FMLA, ADA, Workers' Compensation, and other leave-related claims to ensure compliance and proper documentation.

     

    Actively participate in HR projects such as audits, compensation reviews, internal training efforts, career path planning, and DEI initiatives.

     

    Ensure HR data integrity and provide reporting and analytics as needed to support leadership decision-making.

     

    Strictly maintain confidentiality of all human resource information and uphold the integrity of the HR function.

     

    Promote Valley’s Service Standards and support a positive workplace culture.

     

    Provides backup to the Human Resources function, as needed.

     

    Perform any additional duties as assigned.

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

     

    Ability to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team.

     

    Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, email software and use of the Internet. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel.

     

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.

     

    Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from employees, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

     

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

     

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

     

    Ability to demonstrate high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.

     

    Ability to deal calmly and professionally with diverse personalities and cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization.

     

    Ability to communicate with others inside and/or outside the organization, generally regarding routine matters for the purpose of giving and obtaining information, as well as advising or referring.

     

    Ability to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines in an accurate and efficient manner. Ability to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities.

    Serve as a representative of the Credit Union by participating in community and civic functions and professional organizations.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

     

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and/or stand; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, as necessary.
