Job Title: Phlebotomist
Job Description
Summary: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
Responsibilities
+ Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate.
+ Update patient information.
+ Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
+ Explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) in a clear and courteous manner.
+ Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
+ Understand all physicians' orders fully.
+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
+ Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
+ Package specimens for transport.
+ Store specimen samples according to required temperatures and place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately labeling and following procedures necessary for transport to maintain the integrity of the specimen.
+ Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
+ Attend annual department trainings.
+ Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
+ High School Diploma or GED.
+ Experience with Pediatrics to Geriatrics required.
+ 2-4 years of experience as a Phlebotomist in an outpatient, patient service center, or hospital setting required.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with blood draw, venipuncture, sample collection, phlebotomy, specimen collection, and specimen processing.
+ Professionalism and customer service orientation.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
