    Job Title: Shipfitter

    Job Description

    As a Shipfitter, you will lay out and fabricate metal structural parts such as plates, bulkheads, and frames, bracing them in position within the hull of a ship for riveting or welding. You will work from blueprints or templates, using a variety of hand tools to scribe and lay out the position of parts on metal. You will locate and mark reference lines such as center, buttock, and frame lines, and align parts in relation to each other using jacks, turnbuckles, clips, wedges, and mauls. Your role will involve marking the location of holes to be drilled, installing temporary fasteners, and installing packing, gaskets, liners, and structural accessories and members such as doors, hatches, brackets, and clips. You may also prepare molds and templates for nonstandard parts and tack weld clips and brackets in place prior to permanent welding.

    Responsibilities

    + Lay out and fabricate metal structural parts including plates, bulkheads, and frames.

    + Work from blueprints or templates using hand tools.

    + Locate and mark reference lines such as center, buttock, and frame lines.

    + Align parts using jacks, turnbuckles, clips, wedges, and mauls.

    + Mark location of holes and install temporary fasteners for welding or riveting.

    + Install packing, gaskets, liners, and structural accessories and members.

    + Prepare molds and templates for fabrication of nonstandard parts.

    + Tack weld clips and brackets in place prior to permanent welding.

    + Roll, bend, flange, cut, and shape plates, beams, and other heavy metal parts.

    Essential Skills

    + Ability to read blueprints and drawings.

    + Experience with hand tools and framing techniques.

    + Proficiency in tack welding and using torches and plasma cutters.

    + Minimum of 3 years experience as a shipfitter.

     

    Pay and Benefits

     

    The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $25.00/hr.
