    NC20 - $67,852.00 - $118,741.00

     

    Staff Engineer – assist in maintaining the State Bridge Inspection Program, coordinating State and Municipal bridge inspections and developing policies and standards for the design and maintenance of highway structures. Work at this level requires a comprehensive understanding of the National Bridge Inspection Standards, invoicing and payment for contract inspections, assisting with asset management functions, cost and contract times for a variety of highway structure projects and the engineering efforts required to develop contract plans for the replacement, rehabilitation or preservation of highway structures.

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

    Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:

    + Knowledge of federal requirements for the National Bridge Inspection Standards.

    + Knowledge of element level bridge inspection

    + Experience with reviewing inspection reports.

    + Knowledge and understanding of analysis or load rating of structures.

    + Experience with coordinating and developing repairs to deteriorated or damaged bridges.

    + Experience with making invoices such as bridge inspection invoices submitted by private engineering firms for various types of inspection and equipment required for inspection.

    + Experience with developing policies for the design, maintenance, and inspection of highway structures.

    Additional Expectations:

    Registered North Carolina Professional Engineer is preferred.

     

    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

    Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary special qualification prefers registration as a Professional Engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
