    Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

     

    This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

    Unit Position Summary

    The Department of Community Sustainability at Michigan State University is looking for an on-call Local Foods Research Assistant. The person hired for this position will collaborate on an interdisciplinary project assessing the impacts of the Local Food Purchasing Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program (LFPA), administered by the USDA. Responsibilities include: coordinating research activities with a small team of researchers; Aggregating and summarizing the purchasing records of cooperators involved in the LFPA. Developing research questions to explore in conjunction with the rest of the research team. Attend regular meetings with the project team to discuss progress and next steps.

    Desired Qualifications

    Required Degree: M.S. or equivalent degree.

     

    Previous experience working with and cleaning large data sets.

     

    Proficient in the use of Excel and a statistical software tool (e.g. SPSS).

     

    Previous experience working on/supporting and interdisciplinary research project.
