The principle purpose of the Fire Safety & Hazardous Materials Product Manager is to provide leadership and oversight in the strategic direction, administration, execution and maintenance for Lowe's
Fire Safety program and for the classification and use of all item data as it pertains to the movement and shipment of hazardous materials products offered for sale. This will require a high of planning,
relationship building and influence across the organization. The Fire Safety & Hazardous Materials Product Manager is responsible for the fire safety program including understanding equipment
management and maintenance, providing SME support and guidance for the business, company compliance with Federal, State, and Local requirements and maintaining communication and compliance with vendors. The Fire Safety & Hazardous Materials Product Manager is also responsible for maximizing profits and minimizing liability for the company by protecting the people and assets as they relate to fire protection and fire safety which involves review and guidance on proper hazardous materials storage within company owned facilities as well as supply chain flow to ensure compliance with fire and building code regulations. This will require the ability to understand fire and building code regulations as well as the ability to work with and negotiate directly with local, state, and federal regulatory
agencies as well as fire marshals. The Fire Safety & Hazardous Materials Product Manager must have knowledge of Fire Safety Engineering, fire sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, fire code, building code, and hazardous materials management. The Fire Safety & Hazardous Materials Product Manager will report to the Director of Hazardous Materials and Environmental Compliance and will work closely with Loss Prevention, Risk Management, Legal, Engineering & Construction, Merchandising, Facilities Management, Quality Assurance, and Supply Chain Departments.
What you will do
+ Manage all facility fire related inspection responses and fire/building code questions, challenges, violations and provide Fire Code SME support and guidance to all store and supply chain locations
+ Resolve fire code compliance violations– high pile storage, sprinkler system requirements, maglocks on gates, egress issues, sprinkler system mapping, fire extinguisher, and HAZMAT Issues.
+ Provide subject matter expert assistance to Real Estate and Engineering & Construction Departments to review new construction facilities as well as existing structure facilities to ensure building meets fire code requirements as well as fire alarm and sprinkler system requirements per regulations and Lowe’s standards. This includes store, supply chain, and corporate facilities.
+ Arbitrate, mediate & negotiate (on-going) excessive fire code requirements imposed by State Fire Marshals and AHJs for new and existing store and supply chain locations. Provide direction to the appropriate staff.
+ Troubleshoot sprinkler system and fire alarm issues for the stores and supply chain locations. Assist locations with sprinkler shutdown and with bringing systems back on line. Afterhours (24/7/365) responses will be required as needed.
+ Utilize item data as well as WERCS data to provide storage and flow determinations proactivly and upon request as new items or flow channeling considerations arise.
+ Develop HAZMAT item inventory process to confirm building storage and product flow and HAZMAT product loading within buildings is within code requirements
+ Support and provide fire safety guidance as part of the new supply chain strategy for transporting, storing, and handling hazardous materials as well as lithium battery items. The new supply chain strategy involves a significant increase in moving and storing hazardous materials through our buildings.
+ Address and investigate cause of all fire incidents and develop action plans post incidient
+ Work directly with fire marshals and AHJ's (authority having jurisdiction) to address and resolve all fire and building code related issues and violations, and negotiate, when necessary, on behalf of the company with company interests in mind
+ Assist with HAZMAT item inventory classification and data management within the Lowe’s Product Content Management (PCM) and the WERCS HAZMAT item classification system.
+ Provide support and guidance for the Limited Quantity (LQ) HAZMAT and fully regulated HAZMAT item shipment process utilized to ship hazardous items over over all modes of transport (Ground, Water, and Air).
+ Provide support and guidance for all Lowes.com supported shipping processes for all HAZMAT items to ensure all EPA, DOT, and fire code regulations are followed compliantly
+ Troubleshoot sprinkler system and fire alarm issues for the stores and supply chain locations.
+ Review and resolve service issues related to fire alarm, fire extinguisher and sprinkler systems as they are received from the field.
+ Work with Quality Assurance, providing technical assistance to determine the validity of product safety concerns as they relate to fire safety.
+ Manage vendor relationships, including fire extinguisher vendor fire consulting service, WERCS HAZMAT Data
+ Track all fire-related incidents at Lowe’s facilities to identify trends and correct all possible fire hazards, both local and global.
+ Work with Quality Assurance, providing technical assistance to determine the validity of product safety concerns as they relate to fire safety.
Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree in Fire Safety Engineering or related field
+ 5 years' experience
Preferred Skills/Education
+ Experience in Retail or warehouse management industry
