    Join the Texas A&M Small Animal Teaching Hospital as Veterinary Technician I in the Dermatology department! We are seeking a compassionate Veterinary Technician I to join our Dermatology team and assist in the treatment of small animals admitted to our hospital. In this position, you will support veterinary staff and help to maintain a sanitary and functionally well-organized service within the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (http://vethospital.tamu.edu/small-animal-hospital) .

    Minimum Qualifications

    Associate’s degree in veterinary technology, biomedical science, animal science or a related area, or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

     

    The well-qualified candidate will also possess at Bachelor's degree in veterinary technology, biomedical science, animal science, or related area, 1+ year of experience in veterinary medicine setting, and a certification as a Licensed Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Technician Specialist in Dermatology.

     

    What you need to know

     

    Salary: Starting at $19.11/hour, c ompensation will be commensurate to the selected hire’s experience.

     

    Schedule: This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekend and/or working alternate shifts, holidays, weekends, or “on-call duty”

    Some of the Responsibilities Include:

    + Dermatology: Assist in diagnostic procedures and treatments of Dermatology patients under veterinarian guidance, performs various skin cytology techniques, and maintain antigens and photo bank for skin testing . Obtain medications from hospital Cubex machines, assist with sedation/anesthesia and recovery, post appointment schedules, provide necessary forms, and contact owners for patient information.

    + Clinical: Provide physical restraint for safe patient handling, instruct and supervise students in clinical techniques, administer and maintain sedation, calculate drug doses, and oversee recovery. Keep patients clean, administer prescribed diets, collect and submit samples for analysis, perform lab tests, and assist with physical exams and diagnostic procedures, teaching students proper patient restraint.

    + Teaching and Research: Participate in teaching technical skills in labs and seminars, engage in clinical and basic research programs, and assist with clinical research, including record keeping and data management.

    + Maintenance: Maintain a sanitary and organized service, restock supplies, clean and repackage items for sterilization, maintain laser and video otoscope equipment, monitor laser procedures, and ensure safety during laser usage.

    + Administrative: Remain current with safety training and certifications, ensure accurate hospital fee entry, timely records work time and leave, answer emails, and assist with accreditations and inspections.
