Description

We are looking for a meticulous Accounting Specialist for our client in New Orleans, Louisiana, on a short-term contract basis. The ideal candidate will play a key role in managing accounts payable, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with tax regulations. This position requires strong organizational skills and a proactive approach to maintaining accurate financial records while supporting the overall efficiency of the accounting department.

Responsibilities:

• Process and record accounts payable invoices, petty cash transactions, and expenditures accurately while adhering to internal controls.

• Address and resolve vendor discrepancies and inquiries promptly and with attention to detail.

• Prepare and distribute internal financial reports, accounting schedules, and external compliance reports, including vendor reports and government filings.

• Complete monthly sales and use tax returns and assist in the preparation of financial statements, including general ledger reconciliation and journal entries.

• Administer the petty cash fund and maintain up-to-date records for all associated transactions.

• Compile data and create spreadsheets to support financial analysis and fiscal accountability.

• Coordinate with auditors during annual financial audits, including preparing reconciliations and providing required documentation.

• Assist with the management and organization of annual inventory counts and related reporting.

• Maintain an organized and accessible records management system for all accounting documentation.

• Collaborate with team members to ensure seamless operations and provide backup support for other administrative functions as needed.

Requirements

• A degree in Accounting is preferred, or a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in accounts payable and general accounting.

• Proficiency in accounting software systems and a solid understanding of general ledger accounting.

• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.

• Experience in processing vendor invoices, posting payments, and managing check runs.

• Familiarity with preparing sales and use tax returns and other compliance-related filings.

• Strong ability to manage vendor relationships and respond to inquiries effectively.

• Knowledge of coding invoices, purchase orders, and creating journal entries.

• Excellent organizational and communication skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
