Job Title: Detective Sergeant – Intelligence Division
Department/Division: MTAPD – Intelligence Division
Supervisor: Commanding Officer, Intelligence Division
Work Location: Various
Hours of Work: Four (4) tours of ten hours with three (3) consecutive rest days
SUMMARY :
The MTA Police Department is seeking qualified members from the rank of Sergeant or Detective Sergeant who are interested in assignment to the Intelligence Division. Applicants should note that the selected applicant (s) may be offered an assignment to any unit within the Intelligence Division.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
+ Provide guidance, leadership, and front-line supervision to members of the Intelligence Division.
+ Monitor , supervise, and provide direction on complex criminal , intelligence, and counter terrorism investigations .
+ Monitor, supervise, and provide direction on cyber investigations, human/electronic surveillance monitoring, and implementation of systems associated with (CCTV, cameras, low voltage electronic devices, etc.) .
+ Ensure case s are assigned, investigated, recorded, and closed as appropriate.
+ Provide necessary and timely information to the Division Commanding Officer/Executive Officer o n crime patterns, significant events, and investigations .
+ M aintain a close working relationship with and disseminat e relevant intelligence to external law enforcement partners, members of patrol and special operations personnel, to include the District/Unit Commanding Officer(s).
+ Prepare /Review/Approve detailed administrative /investigative reports .
+ Liaison with and provide operational s upport to external law enforcement agencies .
+ Manage /approve Detective payroll, deployment, scheduling, time off requests, and training requests .
+ M ultitask and perform under pressure while making s ound judgments during emergency situations /incidents .
+ W ork with limited supervision and respond to critical events while coordinating efforts with patrol, Detective Division, EMS, MTA agencies, and external law enforcement agencies .
+ Work within the frames of the department’s budget and allowances as directed by the commanding officer or higher.
+ T ravel for training or investigative purposes.
+ Temporarily backfill units not assigned within the Intelligence Division as needed.
Requirements - Interested members must, at a minimum, possess the following qualifications to be considered for this position:
+ T wo ( 2 ) year s in the rank of MTA Police Sergeant OR Current MTA Police Sergeant with at least five (5) years of MTA Police service.
+ Your abstract must clearly and thoroughly reflect any Intelligence related qualifications you possess and how these skills will benefit the Intelligence Division.
+ Your abstract must highlight your report writing and grammar skills.
+ Must be able to demonstrate strong leadership, multi-tasking, and interpersonal skills.
+ Must have extensive knowledge of New York Penal Law /Criminal Procedure Law and Connecticut laws.
+ Possesses excellent administrative skills.
+ Must be flexible to work various tours, various work locations, willing to be “on call” based on the needs of the department, and willing to work outdoors during inclement/hot weather.
+ Must have the ability to travel from residence to incidents within the MTA Police Department ’ s service area with in a reasonable time.
+ Candidates who have recent substantiated discipline/suspension, negative supervisor review,s and/or who have a documented history of lateness or absenteeism related to non-justifiable excessive sick records may be removed from interview consideration.
+ Omission of documented disciplinary records will result in your disqualification.
+ Successful completion of the panel interview.
In addition to the above requirements, the ideal candidates would possess the following:
+ Members who currently hold an active security clearance sponsored by DOD, DOJ- FBI, or DHS are preferred.
+ Members with prior extensive experience in the fields of criminal/terror related Intelligence Investigations and/or Intelligence Analysis (Intel Analyst) within the MTA, military, or other law enforcement agency are preferred .
+ Ha ve successfully completed a Criminal Investigation Course .
+ Prior investigative experience either in the MTA Police Department Detective Division, Special Investigations, Applicant Investigations, Cyber Crimes Unit, or ICTF preferred.
+ Experience in cybersecurity, digital forensic investigations, computer crimes, digital surveillance, and drone operations.
+ Experience in dignitary protection.
+ Experience in Intelligence report writing and/or previous Counterterrorism related assignments.
+ Detailed recommendation letters from two (2) different supervisors.
OTHER INFORMATION
Interested employees who meet the above listed qualifications will be invited to participate in a panel interview. Candidates should understand that they are not guaranteed an appointment to the rank of Detective Sergeant , even if they meet the above qualifications. Members with incomplete abstracts will not be considered for the interview.
