    Just for Kids is a community-centered non-profit organization that offers before and after school and summer programming in the Amherst, Cheektowaga Central, Cheektowaga Sloan, Cleveland Hill (Cheektowaga), Grand Island, Sweet Home, and Williamsville Central School Districts. We also offer programming at The Park School of Buffalo, Saints Peter and Paul School in Hamburg, St. Benedict School in Amherst, St. Mary's School in Swormville, and Nardin Academy in Buffalo.

    Position Summary

    Just for Kids is seeking a skilled and enthusiasticLiteracy Intervention Specialistwith direct experience implementing theLeveled Literacy Intervention (LLI), for our Cleveland Hill Elementary After School Program. This role focuses on supporting students in grade 2nd-5th who are reading below grade level by providing targeted small-group instruction in key literacy areas, includingphonemic awareness, phonics, word recognition, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and written expression.

    Responsibilities Include:

    Program Development

    • Implement the Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) system with fidelity in small-group settings.

    • Plan and execute daily lessons that integrate reading, writing, word study, and comprehension strategies.

    • Provide explicit instruction in foundational literacy skills including phonemic awareness, phonics, and word recognition.

    • Foster oral reading fluency through guided practice and scaffolded support.

    • Teach vocabulary in context and support comprehension through structured reading strategies.

    • Integrate writing and spelling activities that reinforce reading instruction.

    • Collaborate with classroom teachers and literacy teams to align instruction and support student growth.

    • Provide support to students during program activities as needed.

    Recordkeeping

    • Uphold confidentiality of information regarding children and families, other staff, District operations, and theJust for Kidsprogram at large.

    • Support communication with participating families and staff.

    • Maintain accurate record keeping (i.e. group trackers/attendance records, injury reports, etc.)

    • Follow protocols for the documentation of injuries, and illness.

     

    Any other duties specified by the Program Manager andJust for KidsSchool Age Program administration

     

    Schedule

     

    After school programs follow the District/School calendar, Monday through Friday, from dismissal through the close of program (5:30pm). Five-day availability preferred but not required.

     

    *1 day for weekly for Intervention/Planning (3 hours)

    Requirements

    Experience And Education

     

    + Bachelor’s degree in Education, Reading, or related field.

    + Experience teaching reading in a small-group or intervention setting.

    + Familiarity with or training in the Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) systems.

    + Preferred Master’s degree in Literacy or Reading; Reading Specialist certification.

    + Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.

     

    Physical Requirements:This position is active and requires walking, bending, kneeling, twisting and squatting. This position includes prolonged periods of standing and frequent bending. Generally, must be able to lift up to 10 pounds at a time.

    Salary Description

    $18.00-$21.00
