The Medical Assistant performs a variety of clerical and clinical tasks to support the efficient operation of the medical office. You will gather data, maintain and prepare charts, sort and file according to established systems, and verify information for accuracy. You will explain various types of medical insurance plans and obtain pre-certification as required by patients’ health care insurers or managed care providers. Additionally, you will maintain the physician's calendar, schedule appointments and meeting rooms, and handle mail sorting and screening.
Responsibilities
+ Gather data and maintain and prepare charts according to department policy and procedure.
+ Sort and file documents according to established systems and verify information for accuracy.
+ Explain medical insurance plans and obtain pre-certification as required by patients’ insurers.
+ Maintain physician’s calendar and schedule appointments and meeting rooms.
+ Open, sort, and screen mail.
+ Assist physicians with preparing treatment rooms and ensure instruments and supplies are present.
+ Sterilize and clean instruments and maintain a clean and hygienic environment.
+ Perform routine tests including preparation of cultures, specimens, and various medical tests such as gram stains and hemoglobin.
+ Obtain and record health history, pulse, blood pressure, weight, height, temperature, vision, and hearing on patient’s chart.
Essential Skills
+ Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
+ Experience with Cerner PowerChart
+ Patient care skills
+ Clerical data entry
+ Customer service proficiency
+ Knowledge of medical terminology
+ Appointment scheduling
+ Ability to perform triage
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
+ Experience in an outpatient clinic
+ Office skills
Work Environment
This role is set in a medical office environment with standard working hours from Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. As part of one of the top three healthcare systems in the state of Maryland, you will be contributing to a professional and dynamic healthcare setting.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr.
