Job Title: Global Trade Controls & Compliance Senior Specialist
**Location:** Fully Remote
**Type & Duration:** Full-time contract (5+ months) with potential for extension or permanent hire
**Pay Rate:** $68–$75/hr. (W2, based on experience)
Position Overview:
Jefferson Wells is seeking a highly experienced Global Trade Controls & Compliance Senior Specialist to support our client’s international trade operations. This role requires deep expertise in global import/export regulations, customs compliance, and trade operations. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver with a strong understanding of U.S. and international trade laws, and a proven ability to implement and manage compliance programs across global markets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a subject matter expert on global trade regulations, including U.S. CBP, BIS, OFAC, DDTC, and equivalent international bodies.
- Monitor and interpret changes in trade laws and regulations; assess business impact and update internal procedures accordingly.
- Ensure compliance with trade remedy programs and implement necessary controls.
- Partner with legal and internal teams to develop and enforce compliance procedures.
- Oversee customs and trade operations across U.S. and international locations.
- Manage import/export filings and ensure accurate product classification (HTS, ECCN, Schedule B).
- Design and implement global customs brokerage and logistics partner programs.
- Lead duty savings initiatives such as Free Trade Agreements, Foreign-Trade Zones, and duty drawback programs.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to provide compliance guidance and support.
- Interface with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and government agencies.
- Develop KPIs and leverage data analytics to drive cost savings, lead time reduction, and process efficiency.
- Identify and implement automation and process improvement opportunities.
- Build and maintain SOPs, training materials, and communication plans to ensure alignment with compliance standards.
- Track and report on compliance metrics to identify trends and actionable insights.
- Support global governance initiatives and coordinate cross-functional deliverables.
**Qualifications** :
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree strongly preferred; U.S. Customs Broker License required.
- 10+ years in global trade compliance within a Fortune 500 company or major importer/exporter.
- In-depth knowledge of global customs regulations, incoterms, valuation, classification, country of origin, FTAs, export controls, and sanctions.
- Experience with Global Trade Management (GTM) systems is a plus.
- Strong Excel skills and understanding of IT systems related to trade compliance.
- Flexible and collaborative, with ability to work with cross-functional teams.
