This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced researcher to lead and expand the Department's research initiatives. The role of Director of Research & Discovery is a critical role that strategically aligns and consolidates the basic, translational, and clinical research efforts and administrative support systems. As Director, the incumbent will lead the Neurosurgery Research Administration Team using Enterprise Operating System (EOS) methodologies to focus on improving research productivity, impact, and growth. UM-Neurosurgery solves complex neurological problems to improve the condition and health of neurosurgical patients. The Department works each day to innovate and excel in the clinical practice, science, and education of neurosurgery. The Department’s mission is supported by 4 Core Values: /Patients first, together!/ /Always do the right thing./ /Leave it better than you found it./ /Drive to Discovery and Mastery./ *Responsibilities:* * Provide leadership and strategic direction for the Department's research programs. * Develop and implement research policies and procedures. * Foster a collaborative research environment and promote interdisciplinary research. * Mentor and support faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and students in their research activities. * Secure and manage NIH and other external funding. * Oversee the preparation and submission of research proposals and publications. * Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and ethical standards. * Represent the Department at national and international research conferences and meetings. The expected rank for this position will be/Associate Professor/or/Professor/(tenure track) depending on experience and qualifications, and the ideal candidate will possess a PhD or MD/PhD degree.
