    Job Title: Machinist

    Job Description

    The Machinist is responsible for the set-up, layout, programming, and operation of milling machines to produce precision parts for various industries including Automotive, Aerospace, Medical, Military, and Energy. Utilizing Haas, Portomag, and Fadal machines with Fusion programming, the machinist will work with materials ranging from plastics to metals, crafting components such as balancers, crack detection systems, dimensional gages, and surface measurement systems.

    Responsibilities

    + Fit all parts, tools, and machines to support the machining process.

    + Perform layout work from blueprints, sketches, and written instructions.

    + Load correct programs to the machine using G&M codes.

    + Adjust cutting speeds and depths, feed rates, and position tools based on work sketches, setting geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).

    + Set proper holding pressure on vises and collets.

    + Operate mill turning machine and perform tool changes as needed.

    + Select and properly load correct fixtures for jobs.

    + Monitor machine speeds and feeds.

    + Make modifications and adjust machine tool according to instructions through a toolpath.

    + Cut away excess material to produce the finished product.

    Essential Skills

    + Minimum 1 year of experience in manual milling.

    + Strong knowledge of G&M codes, GD&T symbols, and blueprint reading.

    + 3 years of programming experience, preferably with Fusion, but other software such as Edgecam, Mastercam, or Gibbscam is acceptable.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Bring own tools; limited in-house tools available.

    + Wear steel-toed shoes; safety glasses provided.

    + Experience in troubleshooting and mechanical changeovers.

    Work Environment

     

    The work environment includes 6 CNC machines, 3 manual mills, 2 new Haas VF2 machines, grinders, and saws. The shop features machining, welding, shipping and receiving, panel building, paint booth, and testing areas. Office spaces are located on either side of the shop, with the engineering department and training center upstairs. The current shift is 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with breaks scheduled throughout the day.

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Whitmore Lake, Michigan.

     

    Pay and Benefits

     

    The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $33.00/hr.
