    The pay range is $113,000.00 - $244,000.00

Whether specializing in law, government affairs, employee relations, risk, compliance, ethics, security, or food safety, we use our expertise and influence to advocate for Target, support Target's business, and mitigate risk for the company. We work with internal and external entities on key issues affecting Target's ability to conduct business productively, ethically, and securely. Through our understanding of Target's business models and operations, we help facilitate Target's growth and provide guidance that leaders rely on to make appropriate, well-informed decisions. Simultaneously, we help protect the business by applying our comprehensive understanding of risk and the law on issues that impact our brand, guests, team members, stores, distribution centers, and corporate locations.

     

    A role in  **Government Affairs**  means ensuring local and federal government entities have positive relationships with Target Enterprise. You will act as an advocate on behalf of Target and serve as an internal expert to both internal and external entities on a variety of key community

     

    This work is performed in a dynamic, sometimes volatile and highly visible political environment that involves significant reputation and brand considerations.  With your experience, network, and policy knowledge, a successful Team Member will be open, intellectually curious, and committed to working in a bipartisan fashion.

     

    Target’s Government Affairs team is highly collaborative, and each Team Member is expected to bring their input and recommendations to the team’s work. This includes Team Member civic engagement and awareness, and external and internal risk and reputation management, all consistent with Target’s values and purpose

     

    As the **Senior Manager, Advocacy** , you will maintain a formal grassroots program to advance Target’s policy positions across the country. This is a strategic position in Government Affairs designed to enhance Target’s advocacy capabilities, drive results for the business and enhance our reputation and relationships. In this role, you will:

     

    + Lead, manage, and develop Target Government Affairs’ formal grassroots program to deepen the engagement, support, and participation of Target employees, customers, and local, state, and national partner organizations in alignment with public policy and business goals at the state, local and federal level.

    + Develop grassroots advocacy plans including drafting calls to action, monitoring results, and modifying plans as needed

    + Execute a variety of grassroots tactics including store and warehouse tours, Days at the Capitol and digital advocacy campaigns involving Target’s team members and guests.

    + Build Target’s network of advocates for Target’s public policy priorities identifying internal advocates at headquarters and stores locations across the country

    + Collaborate with Target’s PAC manager to achieve shared goals, including providing grassroots training opportunities to team members and managing the government affairs civic engagement and public policy brand.

    + Provide strategic leadership to the Citizens@Target, a nonpartisan employee civic engagement network to inspire a culture of civic engagement at Target and provide meaningful opportunities for civic participation

    + Develop and execute nonpartisan get-out-the-vote strategies for Target team members and guests.

    + Coordinate grassroots activity with internal leadership and stakeholders to ensure appropriate cross-functional visibility and mitigation of potential risks to Target’s brand and reputation.

    + Consult and collaborate with external association partners on potential grassroots engagement opportunities and advocacy campaigns benefiting Target and the retail industry.

    + Establish and maintain relationships with other grassroots professionals, trade associations and coalitions.

    + Collaborate with teams across the company to gather and verify data and content, crafting compelling narratives tailored to policymakers.

    About you:

    + Bachelor's degree required, preferably in public policy or related field of study.

    + 3-5 years of experience in government relations, public affairs, or external engagement.

    + Proven ability to analyze complex policy issues, solve problems creatively, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

    + Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills, with a track record of building lasting relationships with stakeholders.

    + Excellent time management skills including meeting deadlines of multiple projects with varying completion dates.

    + Strong ability to synthesize information and communicate effectively, including experience with graphic design.

    + Commitment to upholding discretion and sensitivity when working with confidential information.

    + Collaborative mindset with the ability to engage cross-functional teams and contribute to Target’s values-driven culture.

    + Experience managing a formal grassroots program preferred.

    + Ability to travel as needed.
