General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) is a supplier of advanced electromagnetic systems, related power equipment and other high technology products for a variety of government and commercial applications. These include products such as the design and fabrication of linear motors, superconducting and conventional rotating motors, power inverters, high-energy capacitors, radiation monitoring systems, high-voltage direct current power distribution systems, and numerous other products.
We have an exciting opportunity in our Aerospace Systems Engineering directorate for a full-time Systems Engineer (SE) to support a variety of defense related development programs and products. The successful SE candidate will provide technical expertise to multi-disciplinary teams that may be geographically distributed between Huntsville, AL, San Diego, CA, Fredericksburg, VA and/or Centennial, CO. This position is located in Huntsville, AL and will work from our office in Cummings Research Park.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Lead Systems Engineering efforts for the design and development of new weapon systems such as tactical missiles, projectiles, and hypersonic vehicles.
+ Lead teams of Systems Engineers on medium sized projects to produce systems engineering artifacts and system models based on industry best practices.
+ Provide Systems Engineering expertise throughout the integration and test phases of the product life-cycle.
+ May also support Systems Engineering support for lasers, satellite systems, or other complex aerospace systems.
+ Support proposal development including defining Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), WBS dictionary, milestone plans, Integrated Master Schedules (IMS), annotated outlines, and story boards as they relate to Systems Engineering efforts.
+ Support proposal development as a primary author for systems engineering and other sections, as required.
+ Generate proposal Basis of Estimates (BOEs) for systems engineering and other tasks, as required.
+ Review Model Based Systems Engineering system models built Cameo or other similar MBSE tools and provide direction to less experienced systems engineers to continue to refine and improve the system model fidelity.
+ Lead analysis and decomposition of system, segment, subsystem and assembly requirements including use of DOORS or other requirements management tools.
+ Lead development of system requirements, verification cross reference matrices, verification plans/procedures and other system engineering artifacts.
+ Facilitate the development of mechanical, electrical, and logical Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for weapon system applications to include conducting working group meetings, outlining the document content, eliciting inputs from other engineering disciplines, and editing and review documents as part of the release process.
+ Troubleshoot conflicting design/development requirements, difficult coordination requirements, and special material requirements.
+ Support Risk and Opportunity Management activities, meetings and creation and management of risk mitigation documentation/artifacts.
+ May support multiple programs or multiple integrated product teams through system analysis, assembly, integration and testing.
+ Collaborate with all levels of program and engineering staff on design, integration and test matters and support other teams/disciplines as necessary.
+ Support program design and readiness reviews including presenting at these reviews.
+ Lead development and review of systems engineering documentation, artifacts, and contract deliverables.
+ Make technical presentations to company leadership and customers as required.
+ May represent the organization as the prime technical contact on key contracts and high visibility projects.
+ Lead engineering teams and customers through stakeholder needs definition and prioritization exercises during program shaping, ConOps development, and requirements derivation activities.
+ May provide direction to moderately experienced engineering staff.
+ Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
+ Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
+ Maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:
+ Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows: twelve or more years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree; ten or more years with a Master’s degree; seven or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
+ Must have a thorough and broad understanding of engineering concepts and principles, and the ability to apply those concepts to development of cutting edge aerospace systems.
+ Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective interface with other departments and/or professionals, and capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact, as well as providing leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals.
+ Customer focused, formulates plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving advanced technical engineering problems.
+ Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.
+ Demonstrated leadership of Systems Engineering efforts for development of new tactical guided missiles, projectiles, or hypersonic vehicles and the associated subsystems and engineering disciplines that support them is required.
+ Demonstrated experience with classical systems engineering methods and industry application of those methods, is required.
+ The ability and desire to teach and mentor other Systems Engineers is required.
+ Experience developing inputs to proposals, white papers, and requests for information (RFIs) is highly desired.
+ Demonstrated experience using one or more classical requirements management tools such as DOORS, Jama, CORE etc. is highly desired.
+ Demonstrated experience with Model Based Systems Engineering and the Cameo/MagicDraw suite of tools is desired.
+ INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) is desired.
+ OMG-Certified Systems Modeling Language (SysML) Professional (OCSMP) certifications (SysML Model User, SysML Model Builder Fundamental, SysML Model Builder Intermediate, SysML Model Builder Advanced) is desired.
