Eliassen Group is seeking a highly experienced Mobile Accessibility Consultant to lead and implement improvements to the accessibility of our client's React Native mobile application. This role will play a critical part in preparing the app for a broader accessibility audit and an upcoming program launch involving new screens and user workflows. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of mobile accessibility standards, screen reader behavior (VoiceOver and TalkBack), React Native capabilities, and WCAG compliance.
Project Duration: Initial 3-month engagement, with potential extension based on project needs

_Rate: $55 - $80 / hr. w2_
Responsibilities:
+ Conduct an expert review of the current React Native mobile app to identify accessibility gaps.
+ Implement accessibility best practices, particularly for screen reader support, element labeling, and structural semantics.
+ Provide actionable solutions for high-impact issues such as:
+ Missing JSX accessibility tags
+ Improper screen reader reading order
+ Grouping of associated UI components (e.g., product tiles, forms)
+ Use of headings for navigation
+ Focus trap issues (e.g., toast messages)
+ Inaccessible gestures and visual-only indicators
+ Advise on and implement improvements to:
+ Touch target sizes (per WCAG 2.5.8)
+ Orientation support (per WCAG 1.3.4)
+ Accessibility roles and descriptive labels
+ Dynamic content updates and screen reader announcements
+ Integration with third-party content (e.g., credit card forms, web views)
+ Collaborate with the development team to align iOS and Android accessibility APIs with React Native properties (e.g., accessibilityLabel, accessible, accessibilityRole).
+ Recommend and help test accessible design patterns for complex flows, including item customization and navigation.
+ Provide documentation and guidance to ensure ongoing accessibility compliance and development readiness.
Deliverables:
+ Accessibility implementation roadmap with prioritized action items
+ Updated React Native components with enhanced accessibility
+ Documentation of implemented changes and rationale
+ Accessibility test plan and checklist
+ Summary of accessibility findings with guidance for full audit readiness
Experience Requirements:
Key Requirements:
+ 5+ years of experience in mobile accessibility with a focus on React Native, iOS, and Android.
+ Deep familiarity with screen reader behavior, WCAG 2.1+ guidelines, and mobile assistive technologies.
+ Experience conducting accessibility reviews and implementing remediation in production mobile apps.
+ Proficiency in testing and debugging with VoiceOver, TalkBack, and native device tools.
+ Strong understanding of accessibility semantics, roles, touch interaction models, and content grouping.
+ Ability to communicate technical accessibility issues clearly to both developers and non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to Have:
+ Experience supporting accessibility in federal, healthcare, or loyalty-based mobile applications
+ Knowledge of risk mitigation strategies related to third-party content accessibility
+ Background in native mobile development (Swift/Kotlin) with accessibility focus
+ Prior experience auditing React Native apps with complex flows and WebViews
_Skills, experience, and other compensable factors will be considered when determining pay rate. The pay range provided in this posting reflects a W2 hourly rate; other employment options may be available that may result in pay outside of the provided range._
