    General Information & Responsibilities

     

    The Grant and Restricted Fund Accounting Process Lead is a key position in the Accounting department responsible for overseeing the financial stewardship of externally funded grants and internally designated restricted funds across the community college and related foundations. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and private funding requirements while advancing the institution’s mission through sound fiscal management. Reporting to the Director of Accounting, the Process Lead serves as the college’s subject matter expert on grant compliance, various accounting software, nonprofit and restricted fund accounting. This position will be the primary accounting contact for the foundation, adult education, professional and continuing education, and Business Training Center teams assisting with department processes, accounting systems and financial reporting.

    Description of Duties

     

    + Maintain accurate accounting records for all restricted funds, ensuring appropriate allocation and use in alignment with donor intent and institutional policies.

    + Ensure timely reconciliation and closeout of grants, including documentation for audits and external reviews.

    + Support Single Audit preparation and serve as the primary liaison for grant-related audit inquiries and documentation requests.

    + Prepare and review financial statements, internal reports, and grant-specific reports required by sponsors and external stakeholders.

    + Coordinate with program directors, grant writers, and academic leadership to support grant proposal development, grant budget planning, and grant fund monitoring.

    + Promote financial transparency and accountability by educating departments on fund usage, reporting, and compliance expectations.

    + Serve as a collaborative leader with the grants management team, foundation team and adult education, professional and continuing education, and Business Training Center teams through ongoing training, coaching, and professional development aligned with college goals and regulatory requirements.

    + Partner with foundation, adult education, professional and continuing education, and Business Training Center teams and grants management team to provide fiscal guidance and proactive support throughout the budget, accounting, grant and audit lifecycles.

    + Assist in integrating grant activity into college-wide budget planning and forecasting processes.

    + Oversee the financial management of select federal, state, and private grants, ensuring compliance with OMB Uniform Guidance and grantor-specific regulations.

     

    Education & Experience

     

    + Bachelor’s degree or Associates degrees with 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA or advanced degree (MBA, MPA) preferred.

    + Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience and a strong background in grant and/or restricted fund accounting.

    + Demonstrated knowledge of fund accounting principles, GAAP, and OMB Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200).

    + Experience working in higher education, preferably within a community college or similar public institution preferred.

    + Required proficiency in QuickBooks, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and Excel; preferred familiarity with Modern Campus, Ellucian or Banner.
