Job Summary
The IDCS Build Specialist is responsible for assembling and installing data center racks, diagnosing and repairing hardware issues, and managing inventory lifecycle processes. This role involves performing data entry, verifying order accuracy, managing firmware and licensing, and providing technical support, including vendor communication and troubleshooting. The tech collaborates with team members and warehouse staff to resolve discrepancies and ensures timely task delivery while independently acquiring skills to stay current with industry trends.
Job Summary
The IDCS Build Specialist is responsible for assembling and installing data center racks, diagnosing and repairing hardware issues, and managing inventory lifecycle processes. This role involves performing data entry, verifying order accuracy, managing firmware and licensing, and providing technical support, including vendor communication and troubleshooting. The tech collaborates with team members and warehouse staff to resolve discrepancies and ensures timely task delivery while independently acquiring skills to stay current with industry trends.
Role Description
• Assemble and install data center racks, including servers, networking devices, storage, and cables, following detailed technical manuals and rack elevation diagrams
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair computer hardware issues, including memory, hard drives, NICs, and other components, both within and outside of warranty
• Perform data entry into Microsoft AX, Airtable, and other tracking tools for receiving hardware, order tracking, status updates, and asset information recording
• Manage inventory lifecycle processes, including receiving, quarantining, staging, picking, and shipping of assets, and perform inventory analysis to assist with inventory challenges
• Verify all parts on an order against the associated pick ticket and customer's Bill of Materials (BoM), and ensure accuracy through detailed runbooks and quality control checklists
• Collaborate with team members, warehouse staff, and management to resolve discrepancies, escalate issues, and ensure timely delivery of tasks
• Manage firmware versions and licensing for customer devices as specified in build documentation
• Capture and merge data, update internal systems, and maintain knowledge of order processing software such as PackShip and AX
• Provide technical support, including making support calls to vendors, opening tickets for failed components, and communicating technical information clearly to customers
• Independently acquire additional skills to maintain technical competencies and stay current with industry trends and technologies

• Ability to read and understand cable matrices, structured cable routing experience, and basic understanding of IP addressing concepts for managing network and data center configurations. - Basic
Preferred Skills:
• Familiarity with the operational mechanisms, hierarchical setup, and the overall framework of SHI, enabling effective navigation and utilization of internal processes - Basic
Other Requirements
• Completed Associate’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, technical certification such as A+ or Server+, or relevant work experience required
• Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting IT Hardware preferred
• Ability to travel to SHI, Partner, and Customer Events
• Ability to move or lift up to 50 lbs
• Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, and squat for extended periods of time
If at least one certification is not currently held, the successful candidate will be required to obtain one of the certifications within 6 months of commencing the role:

o CompTIA AThe estimated annual pay range for this position is $40,000.00 - $ 75,000.00 which includes a Flat Base compensation structure. The compensation for this position is dependent on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location and, therefore, will vary from individual to individual. Benefits may include, but are not limited to, medical, vision, dental, 401K, and flexible spending.
