Summary This position is located at the Veterans Health Administration, Policy and Services, Patient Care Services, Pharmacy Benefits Management with in the Consolidated Mail Outpatient Pharmacy. The Industrial Equipment Mechanic position requires a practical knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems typically incorporated into complex industrial machinery and equipment. Responsibilities The Industrial Equipment Mechanic installs, maintains, repairs, and modifies the mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of a high-volume automated pharmacy fulfillment system (APFS) and supporting equipment. systems but not limited to: Overhauls, repairs, modifies, and replacement of failed or worn components for conveyor systems, automated dispensing equipment, material handling equipment and a variety of other industrial equipment typically associated with automated systems Determines the nature and extent of repairs and proceeds with the needed repairs by replacing, reworking, or refinishing worn or damaged parts and components Installs, maintains, repairs, and modifies the mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of a high-volume automated pharmacy fulfillment system (APFS) and supporting equipment. Performs preventive maintenance services, conducting periodic, preventive, and electronic and equipment sensor inspections in accordance with manufacturers instructions Checks electrical equipment for voltage and amperage changes Applies a variety of methods, procedures, and techniques to layout, install, align, repair, overhaul, and maintain various types of industrial plant machinery, equipment, and systems that have complex interrelationships among equipment electronic components Work Schedule: (2 shifts are available) Monday - Friday 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM (EST) and 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (EST) 2 shifts are available at the discretion of the supervisor and the needs of the agency. Position Description Title/PD#: Industrial Equipment Mechanic/PD79432A Work Environment: Work is usually performed inside areas that are adequately lighted, ventilated and heated. Floor and deck surfaces are sometimes uneven, oily, and slippery. Frequently exposed to moving objects and sharp edges with the possibility of cuts and bruises, and to noise and vibration from machines. Occasionally, climbs and works from ladders and staging's, causing exposure to possibility of serious injury from slipping and falling. Dirt, grease, and dampness are frequently encountered. Various protective devices such as hard hats, gloves, safety shoes, and glasses are used. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Frequently handles objects weighing 45 pounds and occasionally carries objects weighing 45 pounds and over for considerable distances. Required to push, pull, reach, walk, stand, crawl, kneel, bend, and working cramped positions over and under machinery of all types for sustained periods of time. Education There is no educational substitution described for the Federal Wage System. Additional Information Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
