    Who we want

     

    The Media Relations Coordinator, with the leadership of the assistant director of communications, coordinates, develops, and implements a comprehensive press and media relations strategy that promotes key messages of Mays Business School. You will lead in the creation and promotion of content to increase visibility of Mays Business School, including news stories, press releases, and research spotlights. And working cross-functionally with the Marketing and Communications team as well as with subject matter experts from Mays you will identify opportunities and create positive awareness for the brand and its key initiatives. This role requires your excellent organizational, planning, and project management skills as you develop r elationships with journalists, reporters, and media outlets relevant to business education.

    Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience .

    Qualifications

    Required Education and Experience

    + Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field

    + 3 years of experience in media relations, public relations, or related field

    Preferred Qualifications

    + 5 years of experience in higher education communications or business media relations

    + Experience with business or academic media outlets

    + Knowledge of web-based public relations and social media strategy

    + Demonstrated ability to translate complex academic concepts into compelling stories

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    + Advanced knowledge of public relations strategies and tactics

    + Strong written and verbal communication skills with expertise in AP Style

    + Ability to positively and professionally interact with internal and external stakeholders

    + Ability to present complex information clearly and concisely and s trong attention to detail

    + Exceptional grammar and writing skills in narrative, short form and press release formats

    + Strong organizational & time management skills and ability to juggle multiple projects while meeting deadlines

    Essential Duties/Tasks

    Media Relations Strategy

    + Develop and implement a comprehensive media relations strategy to help raise the national profile of Mays Business School

    + Monitor media trends and track coverage to assess the impact and effectiveness of media relations efforts

    + Coordinate with Texas A&M University’s media relations team on dissemination of press releases, coordination of media requests, and creation of expert videos

    + Identify sponsorship opportunities with national media outlets and industry publications

    + Respond to and manage media inquiries in a timely manner

    + Cultivate and maintain relationships with journalists, reporters, and media outlets relevant to business education

    Writing and Editing

    + Create engaging and high-quality written content, including press releases, media briefs, and research spotlights

    + Develop quick content in response to trending, emerging, or crisis issues

    + Identify opportunities and craft compelling narratives that highlight Mays Business School's achievements, research breakthroughs, and community impact

    + Edit and proofread content to uphold high standards of clarity, grammar, and AP style

    + Ensure all content aligns with strategic messages, brand guidelines, and university editorial style

    Faculty and Research Promotion

    + Develop relationships with faculty and stay informed on research interests and expertise

    + Maintain and update list of faculty experts for media opportunities

    + Elevate Mays’ research through earned media and develop strategy to amplify faculty’s published work

    + Position Mays faculty and leadership as thought leaders at major academic and industry events

    + Nominate faculty, staff, and alumni for select industry and national awards

    Collaboration and Training

    + Partner with creative, digital, and web teams to ensure cohesive messaging and impactful storytelling

    + Provide guidance to Mays units on their public relations efforts

    + Support in disseminating guidelines, best practices, and training across the department

    + Collaborate with school leadership to identify communication needs and develop communication plans
