Description We are looking for an experienced Controller to oversee critical financial operations within our organization located in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. This Contract to permanent position is ideal for a detail-oriented individual who thrives in a dynamic environment and is eager to contribute to the strategic financial management of a mission-driven organization. The role involves managing accounting processes, financial reporting, and compliance with nonprofit standards while providing valuable insights to support organizational goals.
Responsibilities:
• Manage the general ledger, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end/year-end closing processes.
• Prepare and present accurate and timely financial statements and reports to stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with nonprofit-specific regulations and accounting standards.
• Oversee cash flow management, fixed asset accounting, bank reconciliations, and audit preparation.
• Administer payroll processes and coordinate benefit updates in collaboration with HR.
• Maintain and optimize accounting systems, including Abila MIP Fund Accounting, and create custom financial reports.
• Prepare and file required forms, such as 1096 and state-level claims, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Coordinate financial audits and address external compliance inquiries effectively.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and investment reporting efforts to align with organizational objectives.
• Supervise and mentor accounting team members while contributing to cross-functional training initiatives. Requirements • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field is required.
• At least 7 years of accounting experience, including 2 years in nonprofit settings and 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
• Strong understanding of nonprofit financial reporting and compliance standards.
• Proficiency in accounting software, with experience in Abila MIP Fund Accounting highly preferred.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs.
• Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication abilities.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality.
• Experience with board reporting, grant compliance, and fund accounting is preferred.
