The role you’ll contribute:
The Director of Mission and Ministry is a clinically trained minister, responsible for leading and implementing strategic plans and system objectives of mission and ministry throughout AdventHealth, providing oversight for process and outcomes. Participates as a member of the healthcare team in evaluating spiritual needs of patients and providing appropriate interventions to meet such needs. The Director, in conjunction with the Executive Director and/or AVP for Mission and Ministry provides leadership oversight to the chaplains and is the liaison for Mission and Ministry functions. Fosters a sense of mission that enhances a culture of Trust, experience of Belonging, and a future of Hope within the hospital and the healthcare team. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

• Manages and participates in the delivery of certified and clinically integrated spiritual care to all patients
served. Demonstrates the tangible difference care makes within our faith-based healthcare organization.
• Collaborates with clinical team to integrate spirituality into care and demonstrate impact through
research and publication.
• Provides 80/20 ratio of leadership to direct spiritual/pastoral patient care.
• Aligns Mission and Ministry resources and initiatives to support the Patient Experience goals at a
market/campus level.
• Works with Medical Doctors and Directors for Center for Physician Wellbeing to implement mission
support systems for physicians.
• Accountable for assuring compliance and providing evidence of performance with DNV and other
regulatory requirements specific to area of responsibility.
• Adheres to applicable practice standards specific to area of responsibility.
Operating & Capital Budget/Financial Responsibility:
• Ensures that all departments within scope of practice operate within allocated budget
• Implements appropriate tracking systems for success measures and reports on these as required.
• Provides mission/spiritual formation component for market/campus leadership group
• Leads initiatives for Heritage and Culture
• Leads initiatives in Advent identity and culture
• Actively monitors and works to improve spiritual metrics in patient experience.
• Responsible for leading market/local campus in developing strategic relationships with the faith
community, and integrating and aligning mission and ministry objectives with these goals
• Leads in fostering relationships with the faith community and clergy, incorporating them into the life of
the market/campus.
• Assists market/campus leadership in fostering spiritual environment and symbolism on campus.
Staffing/Labor/Supervisory Responsibility:
• Fosters and coordinate a foundation of spiritual support for our employee family, enhancing a culture of
care and compassion wherein every employee can find true meaning and purpose in their work.
• Coordinates and facilitates ministry of chaplains to staff, including education, integration, and evaluation
of mission quality standards.
• Recruits, leads and inspires Spiritual Ambassadors to perform roles and maximize impact, integrating
their ministry within the life of the market/campus and supporting specific initiatives
• Liaison with market/campus Employee Engagement team to provide spiritual foundation for all
initiatives.
• Initiates discussion and manages the workforce planning and employment decisions in consultations with
the Senior Director of Pastoral Care, champions a diverse workforce, interprets and evaluates employee
satisfaction and quality of work surveys, taking action as needed to ensure a positive outcome.
• Oversees overall staffing for assigned area. Ensures staffing is effective and efficient, and promotes core
values. Assures that staff is representative of the population diversity through oversight of recruitment,
selection and retention of personnel. Ensures that staff are actively engaged in decisions within their
scope of practice.
• In consultation with the Senior Director of Pastoral Care plans and develops a complete succession plan
for rollup up to and including own position. Identifies high performing staff and works with Leadership
Development and Talent Management to groom staff to meet succession plan timelines and curriculum.
Actively mentors others into the leadership roles throughout the timeline.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed** **:
• Master’s of Divinity or equivalent Theological degree
• 7 years pastoral experience
• 5 years of leadership experience
• Ordination/commissioning as minister in good standing with the Seventh-day Adventist Church
• Seventh-day Adventist ministerial credential or license
• Endorsement by Adventist Chaplaincy Ministries, and Board eligible with Association of Professional Chaplains
