Job Description
Among other things, the Labor & Employee Relations Division ("LER") of the New York City Housing Authority ("NYCHA") Law Department advises NYCHA's Human Resources Department ("HR") and other business units on progressive discipline and represents NYCHA in disciplinary due process proceedings at trial and on appeal.
As Deputy Director and Assistant Chief of Labor & Employee Relations, responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Collaborate with the Director/Chief in all aspects of Division operations.
- Independently, and in coordination with the Director/Chief, supervise and manage attorneys and support staff.
- Work with Division members in developing strategies and guidance on legal and factual issues.
- Provide advice, counsel and legal analysis to HR and other business units on performance management, progressive discipline, and pre-trial suspensions.
- Maintain own caseload and represent NYCHA in settlement conferences and trials before independent trial officers or the New York City Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings.
- Supervise research and drafting of charges, memoranda, and other legal papers.
- Use IT platforms to enhance LER efficiency, productivity, and caseload tracking.
- Perform other related duties as may be assigned.
Note: The selected candidate will be required to maintain confidentiality regarding all NYCHA proceedings. Part-time telework may be available after 90 days of employment.

Qualifications
Admission to the New York State Bar; and four years of recent full-time responsible, relevant, satisfactory legal experience subsequent to admission to any bar, eighteen months of which must have been in the supervision of other attorneys, in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity, or performing highly complex and significant legal work.
Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.

Salary Min: $130,000.00
Salary Max: $145,000.00
