    Summary This Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (SDRT) position is assigned to the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in General Diagnostic imaging, staff and may include support staff. Advises employees of the performance requirements of their positions, informs them of their progress in meeting the requirements, and prepares formal evaluations of employee performance. Conducts corrective interviews with employees, referring disciplinary problems to higher levels of management; resolves informal complaints of employees; and deals with union representatives as appropriate. Supervisory DRTs plan and direct programs at medical centers and/or satellite outpatient clinics and have full supervisory responsibility. Assignments at this level includes but are not limited to assigning and evaluating the work of subordinate staff; resolving complex problems to ensure patient services are met; evaluating new products, equipment, and systems in order to make recommendations for improved operations; identifying educational or training needs; recommending final decisions on selections; evaluating performance and recommending disciplinary action when necessary. The incumbent has professional responsibility for planning and directing the DRTs activities. He / She is responsible for extracting and analyzing data in order to provide reports in support of performance measures to senior management. The incumbent's work is evaluated in terms of results achieved, and normally recommendations are accepted without change. The incumbent serves as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist proficient in the operations of the PACS system., providing support in training, operations and management of digital imaging acquisition, processing, storage, and display, and ADPAC duties. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency: DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d). Education: Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the 2 equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from [other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).] Licensure/Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), [or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable]. Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent [can operate independently] and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination. [In modalities that require advanced certification, to support their continued development, technologists who do not possess an advanced certification may be provided on the job training with oversight from a certified radiologic technologist.]May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist, GS10 Experience: At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level. The technologist] functions as a supervisor for a group of DRTs at the GS-9 level and below which may include support staff. [The technologist] evaluates new products and equipment, making recommendations to supervisor concerning upgrades/new purchases that would improve operations. [The technologist] informs higher level management of anticipated staffing variances and informally recommends promotions, reassignments, or other personnel changes such as retention or release of probationary employees, and recognition of superior performance in the diagnostic radiologic area. [The technologist] directs the development and implementation of services and treatment to patients through the supervision, mentoring, and oversight of assigned clinical staff. Experience must demonstrate practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. The candidate must demonstrate all of the following technical KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment-specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*): *Ability to analyze organizational, technical, and administrative problems and to develop and implement solutions that result in efficient section operation. Ability to evaluate quality management procedures and processes. *Ability to analyze and use data effectively to manage workload, quality, performance, and productivity. *Skill in developing new policies and guidelines as needed. Skill in problem solving and conflict resolution. Preferred Experience: Several years as a radiologic technologist. Proficiency in operation x-ray equipment. Performing diagnostic imaging and ensuring radiation safety protocols. Familiarity with compliance and accreditation standards along with knowledge of Carestream, VistA, NTP, RIS, and CPRS. Has the ability to develop and implement protocols and quality improvement plans with strong communication and interpersonal skills. Has the ability to manage conflict, delegate tasks and lead by example. Has a commitment to patient care and safety. Grandfathering Provision: All persons employed in VHA as a DRT on the effective date of this qualification standard are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the title, series and grade held, including positive education and certification that are part of the basic requirements of the DRT occupation.
