Mount Carmel Health System is seeking a Cancer-focused Genetic Counselor to add to our Cancer Genetics team of one Licensed Genetic Counselor and one board-certified Medical Geneticists. The **Genetic Counselor** , in collaboration with the Medical Director, provides genetic risk evaluation to patients, their at risk relatives, and concerned consumers; creates and promotes identification strategies utilizing a multidisciplinary team approach; develops education and screening programs promoting emotional and physical wellness; and coordinates and participates in research protocols.
Responsibilities
+ Independently provides genetic counseling to patients at risk for an inherited cancer predisposition syndrome and/or patients at risk for cancer based on personal/family history.
+ Obtains comprehensive personal and family health histories.
+ Facilitates genetic testing as appropriate.
+ Counsels patients and families on testing results, if applicable, and further follow-up care. Collaborates with referring physician and medical director on recommended changes in medical management as needed.
+ Participates in the coordination of assigned research studies and assists in grant writing.
+ Provides genetics education to other healthcare professionals.
+ Supervises students in Genetic Counseling training programs.
Requirements
+ Education: MS in Molecular Genetics, Human Genetics or Genetic Counseling.
+ Certification: Must be ABGC or ABMG Board certified or eligible (Ohio Licensure will be required)
+ Experience: Two or more years of expertise in patient/family counseling, risk assessment, testing protocols and program development.
+ Will consider all levels of genetic counseling experience, including new graduates.
