    The Idaho State Tax Commission is recruiting for a Tax Auditor 1 (underfill for a Tax Auditor 2*) position in the Multistate Unit of the Income Tax Audit Bureau in Boise. Tax Auditors interact with taxpayers and their representatives to verify the accuracy of tax returns and prepare reports of findings, conclusions, or recommendations.     Multistate Unit tax auditors deal with issues including determining if “unitary relationships” exist ­between related corporations, whether income should be classified as business income subject to apportionment, and other state adjustments. These audits may take auditors to corporate headquarters all over the United States.

    Responsibilities:

    + Communicate orally and in writing with taxpayers and their representatives to verify the accuracy of tax returns through review of accounting systems, financial statements, work papers, tax and payroll records and other related documents.

    + Research and analyze data for accuracy to ensure compliance with State tax laws and regulations.

    + Travel to taxpayers' offices to conduct audits

    + Prepare audit findings and summaries.

    + Identify legal issues and apply appropriate statutes, rules and legal precedents.

    + Business Income Tax

    + Participate in team audits

    Minimum Qualifications:

    + Good knowledge of accounting principles and practices.

     

    This is typically gained by having completed 12 credit hours for upper division courses (ACC 300-499 level) for a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or having at least three years of professional work experience as an accountant or equivalent, applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

    *Upon successful completion of the Tax Auditor 2 underfill requirements, the position is reclassified to a Tax Auditor 2 where the current rate is $28.53/hour.
