Description
We are hiring a Senior Accountant for an established commercial construction company in Pauma Valley. This opportunity is perfect for an experienced accountant familiar with the complexities of job costing, revenue recognition, and contractor invoicing. Be part of a dedicated team contributing to large-scale commercial and government construction projects throughout Southern California.
Key Responsibilities:
Job Cost Accounting:
+ Manage job costing processes, ensuring all project costs are tracked accurately and assigned to the appropriate work orders.
+ Analyze project budget vs. actual costs and provide updates to project managers and senior leadership.
+ Prepare regular WIP (Work in Progress) reports and ensure accurate percentage-of-completion reporting under ASC 606 guidelines.
Accounts Payable & Receivable Oversight:
+ Oversee subcontractor billing, progress payments, and ensure compliance with documentation requirements such as lien releases.
+ Work with the AR team to track client billings, retention payments, and ensure timely collections.
+ Review construction purchase orders and vendor payments for accuracy and adherence to budgets.
Banking and Reconciliation:
+ Perform monthly bank reconciliations, including reconciling project-related transactions and credit lines for company-financed construction work.
+ Maintain proper documentation for line-of-credit usage in conjunction with upcoming project cash flows.
Tax & Compliance:
+ Partner with external accountants for the timely preparation of contractor- and construction-specific tax filings, including 1099s, use tax, and sales tax.
+ Monitor compliance with government contracts and other regulations, particularly for prevailing wage and certified payroll reporting.
Process Improvement:
+ Lead efforts to implement new construction software tools, such as Procore or Sage 300 Construction (Timberline), to streamline accounting workflows.
+ Establish metrics and dashboards for tracking KPIs such as overhead burden rates, project profitability, and cash flow.
Requirements
+ 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in the construction industry.
+ Strong knowledge of construction accounting practices, including WIP reports, ASC 606 revenue recognition, and cost controls.
+ Proficiency with construction ERP systems like Sage 300 (formerly Timberline) or Viewpoint.
+ CPA preferred or equivalent education and experience.
+ Advanced analytical skills with a proven ability to interpret large data sets.
+ Exceptional communication skills and comfort collaborating with project managers and stakeholders.
