General Description (Purpose and Function):
The Office of Greek Life at the University of Miami is hiring an Assistant Director to work in a thriving community comprised of 33 organizations with over 3,800 students. The Assistant Director is a professional staff member reporting to the Associate Dean of Students and Director of Greek Life. We are excited to welcome this new position and develop a new team structure under the Dean of Students Office dedicated to the success of the Greek Life community.
Our advising model is centered on moving from a transactional operations approach to facilitating transformative relationships. We aim to develop a culture of reflection and growth by challenging students to improve council governance, enhance decision making skills, promote creativity and impactful contributions through programming, and promote respect for all through positive relationships fostered in a ‘Canes Care for ‘Canes mindset.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Serve as advisor to assigned council executive board(s) as well as a coach to chapters across all councils.
+ Lead and support the growth and revival efforts of Multicultural Greek Council.
+ Advise major programs held by the Association of Greek Letter Organizations such as DeStress Fest, Greek Week, cultural and mental health events, etc.
+ Assist in facilitating educational programs on leadership, member development, and creative programs to educate students on harm reduction strategies and skills.
+ Demonstrate commitment to the culture of belonging and assist councils on improving belonging efforts in operations and practices.
+ Coordinate the Greek Community Standards collection and review process.
+ Work with the Greek Life team to coordinate major programming efforts including the Greek Leadership Day Retreat, New Member Symposium, AGLO Awards, and other programs.
+ Review and define council(s) purpose, brand, and campus impact with student leaders.
+ Plan and facilitate council leader retreat to support transition of new officers.
+ Identify chapters of concern and develop action plans for support.
+ Assist the Greek Life team in management of (1) chapter event registration process, (2) maintaining database of membership statistics, (3) preparation of semester academic and community service reports.
+ Supervise Greek Life Office Graduate Assistant.
+ Other duties as assigned that forward the mission of the Division of Student Affairs/Dean of Students Office to serve students and the university.
Education & Work Experience Requirements (Essential Requirements):
+ Master’s degree in college student personnel, higher education administration or related field is required.
+ Minimum of 2 years full-time professional student affairs or related experience required.
+ Working knowledge of AFA Core Competencies for Excellence in the Profession, Recommendations for Excellence in Fraternity and Sorority Life, and up to date on national umbrella communication and policies.
+ Understanding of all governance structures and joining processes for the four councils.
+ Ability to acknowledge, navigate, make quality decisions, and lead through complex issues.
+ Demonstrated commitment to creating a Culture of Belonging.
+ Ability to work with a high level of autonomy in a fast-paced environment.
+ Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
+ Experience with planning and executing primary sorority recruitment under NPC guidelines preferred.
+ Experience with Campus Labs Engage, recruitment registration software (ICS), and Wix website platform preferred.
+ Experience with Microsoft Office suite, primarily Excel, is highly preferred.
+ Affiliation with a fraternity or sorority preferred.
