    The Role

     

    We are seeking an innovative and entrepreneurial-minded Senior Entrepreneur in Residence to lead Target Biology external innovation efforts. In this role you will be responsible for defining the overall science strategy for novel areas of biology to explore for external R&D activities. You will identify and execute partnerships with academia and oversee sourcing and evaluation of project seeds from both academia and biotech. In this transformative role, you will act as an internal champion for external partnerships, driving the creation of competitive and innovative projects within the Innovation Lab. By collaborating closely with internal research functions, you will play a vital role in advancing these initiatives and contributing to flagship projects that redefine the landscape of science and medicine and build a competitive Astellas pipeline.

    Responsibilities

    + **Lead Target Biology External Innovation** : Overall responsibility for defining the overall science strategy for novel areas of biology to explore for external R&D activities. You will identify and execute partnerships with academia and oversee sourcing and evaluation of project seeds from both academia and biotech working closely with I-Lab colleagues as well as business development.

    + **Cultivate Strategic Partnerships** : Build and nurture strong relationships with potential collaborators, fostering strategic partnerships that align with our mission and vision while promoting a culture of innovation.

    + **Champion External Collaborations** : Serve as the internal lead for external collaborations, ensuring seamless communication and coordination between partners and internal teams to drive entrepreneurial projects forward.

    + **Ignite Innovative Projects** : Drive the creation of pioneering projects within the Innovation Lab, leveraging external insights and expertise to fuel innovation and entrepreneurial thinking.

    + **Collaborate Across Functions** : Work closely with internal research functions to propel newly created projects forward, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and timelines while fostering an entrepreneurial spirit.

    + **Engage with Business Development** : Partner with the business development team to evaluate and execute on external opportunities, contributing to the generation of new and impactful projects that reflect an entrepreneurial approach.

    Required Qualifications

    + PhD., MD or equivalent degree in a relevant scientific field with deep expertise in at least one area of biology.

    + A minimum of 15 years of experience in drug discovery research within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.

    + Senior level experience in External R&D from multiple companies (preference for US) and a strong track record in establishing innovative and differentiated programs in novel areas of biology as shown in delivery of CN / IND stage candidates

    + Proven track record of successfully identifying and establishing collaborations with external partners, demonstrating an entrepreneurial mindset.

    + Strong understanding of the drug development process and the ability to critically evaluate scientific opportunities with a focus on innovation.

    + Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Experience in scouting and evaluating external drug candidates or technologies with an entrepreneurial perspective.

    + Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance in the pharmaceutical industry.

    + Strong analytical skills and a background in data-driven decision-making.

    + A history of publications in peer-reviewed journals or presentations at industry conferences.

    + Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while effectively managing multiple priorities.
